As part of the February 2025 PlayStation State of Play, viewers were treated to the surprise announcement of Days Gone Remastered, an update to the latest game by Bend Studio. Coming to Steam and the Epic Games Store day-and-date with the PS4 upgrade and PS5 launch, players can assume the role of the motorbike-riding Deacon St. John in his definitive adventure once Days Gone Remastered releases on April 25, 2025. While it may not be the most exciting first-party Sony release for the first half of the year, it’s at least a good sign for Bend Studio and the Days Gone IP.
Aside from the benefits of a native PS5 version, like improved visual fidelity and DualSense support, Days Gone Remastered has new features to hook players in. Sony’s touted first-party accessibility suite is a big one, while Horde Assault, a survival arcade mode with its own progression, offers a new way to experience Days Gone. Permadeath and Speedrun modes will allow veterans to show off their skills, while an Enhanced Photo Mode can show the game off in its best light. It’s quite the package for diehard fans, and for anyone who has been on the fence about the title, but another PlayStation game may end up stealing the spotlight.

Among Sony’s IPs, The Last of Us Is Hard To Top
Days Gone is neither the first nor the most popular zombie-centric, first-party franchise in PlayStation’s catalog, and that fact could be about to bite it again. The Last of Us has been one of Naughty Dog’s most successful series since its launch on the PS3, and it’s managed to sell over 37 million copies worldwide and kick off a successful TV show. It bears noting that The Last of Us only technically consists of two games because the first was remade into The Last of Us Part 1, and The Last of Us Part 2 was remastered for PS5 back in January 2024.
That brings the view back to the present, and The Last of Us isn’t finished yet. On top of a second season for the TLoU show, which adapts the plot of Part 2, the PS5 remaster, and the game in general, is finally coming to PC. Come April 3, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will join Part 1 on Steam and Epic Games Store. Although the PC port of Part 1 launched with some severe technical issues, hopefully what was learned from that situation will help the sequel avoid them. What it’s not avoiding is stepping on its fellow PlayStation IP’s toes.
TLoU Part 2 Remastered’s PC Launch Could Seriously Harm Days Gone
Although Days Gone has already been on Steam and EGS since 2021, having been an early first-party PlayStation migrant to the PC, its Remastered update could be Days Gone’s last shot at the spotlight, and The Last of Us could be getting in the way. TLoS and Days Gone are Sony’s two big zombie game franchises, and players may opt for one over the other. Chances are good that The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will undercut Days Gone Remastered, even though the latter will launch on more platforms.
Days Gone Has The Most To Lose From Launching Near Competition
The attention Days Gone could lose to a similar game is important. Neither Days Gone Remastered nor TLoU Part 2 Remastered are coming cheap, and even though they’re in the same $50 USD price range, someone who purchases, or even consciously turns down, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered at the beginning of April may not save up for Days Gone at the end of the month. Days Gone Remastered is launching in a danger zone, but hopefully it can make the best of the hand it’s been dealt.
