- Speculation continues on the Avengers: Doomsday cast as official announcements are pending.
The Avengers: Doomsday cast is preparing to assemble for the film’s production start, and one former Guardians of the Galaxy actor seemingly hinted that they may join the team’s roster.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to begin production in April 2025, with several MCU actors expected to reprise their roles as part of the ensemble cast. However, as of this writing, Robert Downey Jr. is the only officially listed Avengers: Doomsday cast member. While some actors have been spotted in London ahead of Avengers: Doomsday beginning production in the city and others have said their involved, the titular’s team roster for the film has largely been a guessing game. However, the MCU may fulfill a post-credits scene promise by including a former Guardians of the Galaxy cast member in Avengers: Doomsday.

An upcoming Marvel series Disney Plus features a returning MCU favorite, but the actor voicing the character didn’t remember reprising their role.
During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote Pratt’s upcoming Netflix film The Electric State, the eponymous host asked the actor if he is reprising his role as Star-Lord in the next Avengers film. Pratt coyly reminded audiences that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 post-credits scene ended with an onscreen message saying, “The Legendary Star-Lord will return.” While he did not directly confirm his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, Pratt noted that, “we will make good on that promise.” Kimmell attempted to clarify if this meant Star-Lord will return in a different movie, but Pratt interrupted by joking saying a Marvel sniper may be watching him and that he will “say no more.”
The promise of The Legendary Star-Lord’s return was surprising to some, as Guardians of the Galaxy. Vol. 3 was billed as the final installment of Gunn’s trilogy. However, on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 audio commentary, Gunn confirmed that he and Pratt have discussed making a Star-Lord movie that focused on his attempts to adapt to life on Earth after being absent since childhood. Of course, with Gunn now heading the DC Universe franchise at DC Studios, he may no longer be able to work on Marvel Studios projects. But Gunn has stated that he doesn’t feel ownership over the Guardians of the Galaxy characters and Pratt said that he’s open to reprising his role as Star-Lord under a different filmmaker if he had Gunn’s blessing.
So, Pratt may have been referring to a Star-Lord solo project that has yet to be announced. However, the question was clearly about Avengers: Doomsday, and while Pratt didn’t directly confirm his involvement, it would have been easy to debunk his return in that film if he wasn’t in it.
Until Marvel Studios officially announces the full cast, fans must continue guessing as to who will return in Avengers: Doomsday. Some candidates are safer bets than others, and Pratt’s Star-Lord may have jumped into the “likely” column.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.
