In the current meta of Clash Royale, there are three different types of Wizards in the game. But when it comes to raw firepower, none can beat the OG Wizard. It’s a high-damage support troop that deals splash damage in a large AOE and is one of the best swarm counters in the game.

Clash Royale: Best Decks with Giant Skeleton (& How to Counter It)
Giant Skeleton is an epic card in Clash Royale that drops a bomb as it dies. Here’s how to counter it along with some of its best decks.
However, the card has a fair bit of weakness, and even though it’s the only Wizard card to get the Evo Treatment, its usage rate in Clash Royale isn’t all that high. But in the mid-ladder, a lot of players struggle to defend against the Wizard because of its insane damage output when there’s a tank in front of it. This guide will showcase some of the best Wizard decks that are still viable in the current meta — and how to counter this annoying card.
Wizard Card Overview Clash Royale
The Wizard is a 5-elixir Rare card that deals splash damage from a ranged distance. The card is extremely effective at taking out swarm troops. It’s one of the best counters against Minion Horde, Evo Barbarians, and Evo Royal Recruits as long as you’re protecting it with a mini-tank.
The Evo Wizard, added later on, spawns with an additional shield on top of its base health, protecting it against spells or getting one shot by the opponent’s troops. When the shield breaks, it creates a shockwave, knocking back nearby enemy troops. The Wizard is mostly used as a defensive card in Bridge Spam-style decks. However, some beatdown decks with Golem also use the Evo Wizard instead of Night Witch.
The Wizard can hit both ground and air troops.
How To Counter Wizard In Clash Royale
Wizard is a ranged attacker that can dish out a lot of damage from a distance. However, it’s not as effective against mini-tanks, especially when they get close. Prince, Valkyrie, Dark Prince, and Knight can all counter the Wizard effectively when it’s on your side of the arena.
Mini Pekka is currently the best counter to the Wizard since it can take it out in one shot for a positive elixir. If your opponent is using the Wizard as a support troop while pushing, place the Mini Pekka on top of the Wizard to quickly eliminate it.
Spell combos such as The Log and Fireball or Fireball and Zap can take out the Wizard before it crosses the bridge. This can be a good strategy to use if you’re having a hard time dealing with the Wizard. You can also get some tower damage when you’re using Spells to take out the Wizard.
However, if the opponent is using the Evo Wizard, it’s harder to pull it off. Since you’ll first have to get rid of the shield, trying to take it out using Spell Combo isn’t really a great idea. But you can destroy the shield using The Log to make it easier to deal with the Evo Wizard.
The Wizard is pretty effective against the Night Witch since it can take out the spawned Bats easily.
