Since their introduction, Tower Troops have added an extra layer of strategy to Clash Royale, significantly affecting how your deck plays out. Currently, the game features four distinct Tower Troops: Dagger Duchess, Cannoneer, Royal Chef, and Tower Princess, each with its own unique strengths and weaknesses.

But which one is truly the best choice to get you to the top? In this guide, we’ve ranked all the Tower Troops to help you choose the best one for your Clash Royale games.
4
Dagger Duchess
Fastest Attack of All Tower Troops

248 |
Dagger Recharge Time |
0.9 seconds |
The Dagger Duchess used to be an excellent Tower Troop before all the nerfs it received a few seasons back. Even though it got buffed recently, it never really went back to its prime. The Tower Troop is still decent in a few cycle decks, but the other ones are simply better in the current meta.
Instead of firing a single attack, the Dagger Duchess fires multiple dagger projectiles in quick succession at the enemy unit as it crosses over to your side of the arena. However, after 8 attacks, the bar under the Crown Tower depletes and the attack speed of the tower goes down.
The bar gradually fills up again when the Dagger Duchess isn’t actively attacking a troop. This means against beatdown decks that have multiple support troops behind the win condition, the Dagger Duchess pretty much becomes useless once it takes out a single troop. This Tower Troop has the second-highest hit points in the game but struggles against most decks in the meta.

Cannoneer
Slow Shots, Big Damage

Hit Speed |
2.4 seconds |
Cannoneer was the first truly new Tower Troop to be added to the game. When it first came out, the troop was pretty much broken because of its massive damage. Despite the nerfs that came afterward, a few Golem decks still go with the Cannoneer as its primary Tower Troop.
Cannoneer’s biggest strength is its massive damage per hit. While its hit speed is the slowest of the bunch, the damage it deals to any enemy unit that crosses the bridge makes it a solid Tower Troop to use in your decks. It can prevent a Bomber or Firecracker from getting hit on the tower because of its high damage.
The Cannoneer’s biggest weakness, however, is against decks that use swarm-type win conditions. It struggles against cards like Graveyard, and Goblin Drill and is countered heavily by most Log Bait decks. It also has the lowest hit points of all the tower troops, making it a high-risk, high-reward option for most players.
2
Royal Chef
A Unique and Powerful Ability
Rarity |
Legendary |
---|---|
Hit Points |
2703 |
Damage Per Second |
109 |
Buff Cooking Time |
24-40 seconds |
Royal Chef is the newest Tower Troop to make its way to the Clash Royale arena. This Tower Troop doesn’t have the exceptional nuke potential of the other ones that we’ve mentioned so far. In fact, it deals the least DPS of all the Tower Troops on this list. But what makes this Tower Troop so good is its unique Pancake Buff.
Every few seconds, the Royal Chef chucks out a Pancake towards an allied troop on the field, increasing its level by one. Simply put, if you’ve got a level 15 card on the field, the Pancake buff from the Royal Chef will push the troop to level 16, exponentially increasing all of its stats.
The Royal Chef can take anywhere from 24 to 60 seconds to prepare this buff. The duration is shorter when the Tower Troop is not actively attacking the enemy troops. It’s also possible to buff up an allied troop multiple times with the Royal Chef. But since the buff prioritizes the unit that hasn’t levelled up yet, it’s more likely that it will be spread out across the different units you have on the field.

Tower Princess
The Most Reliable Tower Troop

Hit Points |
3052 |
Damage Per Second |

Hit Speed |
0.8 seconds |
The Tower Princess is the standard Tower Troop that players start off with in Clash Royale. Despite being a Common Tower Troop, Tower Princess is the most reliable of the bunch. It offers a nice balance of damage and attack speed despite not having any unique effects like the other Tower Troops.
The Tower Princess also has the highest hit points of all the Tower Troops. While it may not offer any additional utility, it can tank more damage before going down. Since every bit of damage counts in the top ladder, most players go with the Tower Princess as their Tower Troop unless they are running a very specific meta deck.
Even if you don’t have any other tower troops unlocked, the Tower Princess will easily carry you to the Ultimate Champion. It may not offer the burst damage of Dagger Duchess or the nuke of the Cannoneer, but it offers consistency, making it our top pick for the best tower troop in Clash Royale.
