The most recent of these introductions is that of Scopper Gaban, whom Oda has been teasing in the story for years upon years now, and has only now revealed him. One Piece chapter 1139 finally gave fans his proper debut, and chapter 1140 gave readers a glimpse of his strength. While his fight against Luffy and Zoro may be over, there is more to come from Scopper Gaban, and he might actually go on to fight the Holy Knights soon enough.
Scopper Gaban’s Introduction In One Piece
- Gaban Was Introduced As A Pirate As Strong as Rayleigh and Roger
- Gaban Holds Secrets Of The World
Scopper Gaban is one of the most important characters in One Piece, and an individual that Oda has been itching to incorporate into the story. He first showed up in Chapter 19, and then, was named first in a One Piece databook. The first glimpse of Gaban in the present timeline came in One Piece chapter 631 in the cover story, where he was seen at the Twin Capes, sharing a drink with Crocus, his former crewmate. Scopper Gaban was then shown in the Oden flashback, and fans got to properly meet him in the present timeline in One Piece chapter 1139. He was introduced in the story as a figure with monstrous strength as strong as the Pirate King and the Dark King themselves, and at the same time, holding enough fame to be considered a living legend.
I am the missionary of love! Love is freedom! — Scopper Gaban
While Oimo and Kashi were seen introducing Gaban, fans saw him meet Luffy, Zoro, and Nami in Aurust Castle, and show them the way to Loki’s key. He then proceeded to challenge Luffy to take the key from him, and it was quite clear that he was strong enough to contend with him even in his old age. Scopper Gaban was able to absolutely toy with Luffy, who, despite being a future sight user, wasn’t able to steal the key from him. On top of that, Gaban gave fans a glimpse of Supreme King Haki Infusion, and more than that, a technique so strong that it sent shivers down the spine of a Yonko and the number 2 of the crew.
Gaban, despite being so strong, played it off as a joke, and he then went on to leave Aurust Castle, entrusting the key for Loki’s chains to Luffy. He proceeded to say that if Elbaf was still standing come the end of their time in the country, he’d be waiting for Luffy.
Why Scopper Gaban Could Fight The Holy Knights
Scopper Gaban’s Job Isn’t Done Yet
While fans may believe that Scopper Gaban’s role was to test Luffy and lead him to Luffy’s key, that certainly isn’t all. Of course, Gaban already clearly mentioned that he has things to talk about with Luffy come the end of the major events that will shake Elbaf. But, more than that, he has a bigger role to play soon. Fans need to remember why Gaban was in Aurust Castle in the first place. According to him, he sensed a mysterious and sinister Haki from the castle, which is why he intended to check it out for himself.

One Piece: The Holy Knights Might Be Stronger Than You Think
The Holy Knights, a powerful group in One Piece, might be far more powerful than many fans initially thought they were.
Nobody in Elbaf was able to sense this Haki, meaning that Gaban’s Haki is far superior to everyone else. Regardless, Gunko just summoned two Holy Knights to Elbaf, which means that momentarily, Gaban must’ve sensed this Haki as well. As expected, logic dictates that the next destination for Scopper Gaban is going to be Walrus School, which is where the Holy Knights are.
I came here after sensing a very mysterious Haki. But it seems to have gone now. — Scopper Gaban
It is quite clear to see that Scopper Gaban has a role to play in Elbaf still. This is especially true because he has a son, Collun, who is most definitely going to play a role here. As seen previously, the Holy Knights intend to kidnap the children from Walrus School and take them back to the Holy Land. For now, their goal is to start a massive game and then grab the children to take with them. Collun is, surprisingly enough, not there at the moment. This means Collun could try to attack the Holy Knights and rescue the kidnapped children, but of course, face an imminent threat of death. This is where Scopper Gaban could come into play. He would go on to save his son from death, and at the same time, fight the Holy Knights by himself.
Will Scopper Gaban Die In One Piece?
His Chances Of Death Are Almost Zero
Scopper Gaban is most likely going to fight the Holy Knights in Elbaf by himself. At the moment, it seems that Shamrock Figarland is heading back to Marijoa, which means that Gunko, Sommers, and Killingham are going to be there for Scopper Gaban to face in battle. They’re all very powerful, but they will most definitely have to combine their powers against Gaban. This fight isn’t going to be easy for Scopper Gaban. Although he might’ve been able to deal with three monsters such as the Holy Knights back in his prime days, right now, he’s old, meaning he could struggle. Gaban will most definitely suffer injuries in this fight if it happens, and he might even have to sacrifice himself. But, at the end of things, Scopper Gaban isn’t going to be dying, and that’s for certain. This is clear from the fact that Gaban mentioned himself that he wants to pass some information to Luffy. If he were to die, then this whole setup would be for nothing. At the very least, fans can say that Gaban will not die in Elbaf, but he might have to make some sort of sacrifice in the arc, especially if he’s going to fight three Holy Knights all by himself. It is going to be a massive battle for Scopper Gaban, and one where Oda will show the fans what he’s truly capable of. At the same time, his role as a parent will also be highlighted here, and that’s something that all fans would be itching to see moving forward in One Piece.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1141, is set to be March 2, 2025.
