Fast & Furious fans will soon have to say goodbye to one of Universal Studios Hollywood’s long-standing attractions. The park has officially announced that Fast & Furious: Supercharged, a key segment of the world-famous Studio Tour, will permanently close on March 10, 2025, to make way for an all-new thrill ride at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Fast & Furious: Supercharged is a motion-based, immersive thrill ride featured at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida. The attraction, inspired by the massively popular Fast & Furious film franchise, first debuted at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2015 as part of the Studio Tour before later being adapted into a standalone ride at Universal Studios Florida in 2018. Guests remain seated in their tram as it enters a 360-degree immersive tunnel featuring 3D projections, creating the illusion of being thrust into a high-speed chase using motion simulation. To heighten the excitement, special effects like wind blasts, water sprays, and surround sound fully immerse guests in the action-packed sequence.

However, in an Instagram post, Universal Studios Hollywood shared a behind-the-scenes look at construction progress, showing crews assembling the track for a highly anticipated coaster set to replace Fast & Furious: Supercharged. The new experience, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, will mark the park’s first-ever high-speed outdoor roller coaster, set to debut in 2026. Originally announced in 2023, this cutting-edge coaster is expected to deliver an adrenaline-pumping experience unlike anything currently offered at Universal Studios Hollywood. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be situated in the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood. Guests will enter a garage-inspired queue before boarding ride vehicles modeled after iconic cars from the films. The high-speed experience will launch riders onto an elevated track, weaving through the park for a thrilling, action-packed adventure.
Fast & Furious: Supercharged Will Permanently Close At Universal Hollywood
While this change impacts Universal Studios Hollywood, questions remain about the future of the Orlando counterpart at Universal Studios Florida. The Florida version of Fast & Furious: Supercharged briefly closed for three months in 2024 during Halloween Horror Nights, reportedly as a cost-saving measure ahead of the Epic Universe expansion. However, Universal has not made any official statements regarding whether the Florida attraction will also be permanently retired.
Meanwhile, speculation has been mounting that a new attraction could be themed around the blockbuster movie-musical Wicked, following hints from a Universal Studios executive about “secret plans” to bring the Wicked into its parks. Universal recently experimented with a Wicked-themed experience at Universal Orlando, hinting at the franchise’s potential future in the parks. The limited-time event featured a meet-and-greet with Glinda and Elphaba, exclusive Wicked-themed treats, specialty merchandise, and more. This pop-up seemed to serve as a test run to gauge guest interest in a more permanent Wicked attraction. Given the movie-musical’s massive popularity, it wouldn’t be surprising if Universal decided to build on this concept in a bigger way.
