The Sims 4 has officially revealed that Burglars will be making their return to the franchise, bringing back a classic staple of older Sims games. The most recent main-series entry in the long-running life simulation franchise has seen plenty of updates and expansions debut since its original release in 2014. The fourth numbered Sims game has seen seventeen different expansion packs and twelve game packs, bringing everything from new jobs and neighborhoods to new types of homes like rental houses and horse ranches. Now, Maxis has revealed a classic character is making a comeback.
The Burglar served as one of The Sims‘ most notorious NPC characters in early Sims games, showing up in the dead of night to pilfer the player’s valuables. Earlier entries in the series allowed players a range of defenses against burglars, able to outfit their houses with security systems to protect against unwelcome intruders. The Sims had already teased a new update earlier this week for the franchise’s 25th anniversary, hinting at the return of the Burglar character in the newest Sims. Now, Maxis has officially confirmed that the Burglar will be joining The Sims 4.

Maxis officially revealed on Tuesday that Burglars will be joining The Sims 4 with its next update. The official reveal post did confirm that there will be a variety of ways to stop potential intruders, with everything from dogs, vampires, and werewolves able to scare off Burglars. The update will also introduce a new security system item players can purchase, setting off an alarm when a Burglar attempts to enter the house.
The Sims 4 Confirms Burglars Are Coming Back
The introduction of Burglars to The Sims 4 will mark the return of a franchise staple after a long absence from The Sims 4. The Burglar appeared in each of the first three Sims games, with each offering different methods of fending off potential robbers alongside the standard security system. The Sims 3 even allowed player characters to become Burglars themselves by choosing the “Thief” profession on the game’s Criminal career path.
The Sims 4‘s newest update comes as part of a larger celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary filled with plenty of festivities. Maxis officially debuted Legacy Collection compilations of both of the original Sims games, featuring the base games and DLC expansions for The Sims and the Sims 2. The developer is also gearing up for the launch of The Sims 4‘s next major DLC, with the “Business and Hobbies” expansion featuring new updates and overhauls to the game’s business system. The return of Burglars to The Sims 4 will give players a major reason to keep their in-game homes secure and safe.
