One ability that One Piece chapter 1141 threw a lot of focus on is the Abyss Summoning Circle, which was first introduced in the story back in the Egghead Island Arc. Back then, the Five Elders utilized its powers, and in Elbaf, fans have seen this ability being utilized by none other than the Holy Knights. Although the exact mechanics of this technique are still not known, the previous chapter of the series did end up providing a ton of extra information pertaining to it, with more to follow as the Elbaf arc of the story continues with great intensity.
What Is The Abyss Summoning Circle?
- The Abyss Is The Summoning Circle Of The Government
- Can Be Utilized By A Select Few
The Abyss Circle was first shown in the story during the Egghead Island Arc of One Piece. Back then, Saint Saturn was shown to be the first user of this power, and he did it in a rather different manner compared to how the Holy Knights use it. Saturn used the power of the Abyss to spawn on Egghead Island despite there being no Abyss there before he popped up. After causing a lot of chaos, Saturn then used the Abyss to summon four other Elders to Elbaf, and together, they caused a ton of issues for the people of Egghead. The Abyss, simply put, is a summoning circle. It has a pentagram inside, and it can be used to summon certain individuals almost instantaneously to just about anywhere. For instance, when Saturn utilized the Abyss, the other Elders showed up in Elbaf almost immediately, despite Marijoa being way too far from the island. Essentially, the Abyss Is just a portal through which certain people can be summoned.
Those who aren’t marked cannot pass through the Abyss —Killingham
The Abyss isn’t entirely invincible. It is quite strong but can be broken through, as was shown in One Piece’s Egghead Island arc. When Joyboy’s Haki was unleashed at the end of Egghead, the Abyss cast by Saint Saturn was nullified and all the Elders were sent back to Marijoa. The same logic should apply to the Abyss in Elbaf as well, which means that the Abyss itself could be a Devil Fruit ability, since it has already been established that Haki can nullify Devil Fruit powers when utilized in large amounts, examples being Law being unable to move Kaido and Big Mom on the rooftop, and canceling the ability of Doc Q in One Piece’s Egghead arc.
To utilize the Abyss, one must have the mark on their body. This clearly suggests that there is someone who marks those who put the Abyss on the bodies of people. Those who have the Abyss Mark on them can be summoned to any place almost instantaneously, sometimes without them even knowing what’s going on.
The Abyss Mark And Its Connection To Imu
Imu Could Be The Wielder Of The Abyss
Undoubtedly, the Abyss has to come from somewhere, as it is a power that can only be utilized when one is marked with a certain symbol. This was proven to the fans in One Piece chapter 1140. The only person capable of delivering such powers to others is Imu. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Imu has the power to share their powers with others. For instance, Imu has access to immortality, yet all the other Elders are immortal as well, and this is likely because Imu has shared their power, and the power of the Yokai with them. This is also confirmed by the fact that Imu took away the powers that Saturn was gifted at the end of the Egghead Island Arc, killing him in the process.

Similarly, Imu seems to have the power of the Aro Aro no Mi at their disposal, given that they used this ability to kill Cobra and injure Sabo during the Reverie. Yet, this very power is accessible to Gunko now. Shamrock’s sword has the power of Cerberus, and just the Yokai of the Elders, this power seems like it comes from Imu as well. Clearly, Imu has the power to share powers, and it is highly likely that the Abyss actually belongs to Imu, meaning the Holy Knights wield power that directly comes from Imu.

One Piece: The Holy Knights Might Be Stronger Than You Think
The Holy Knights, a powerful group in One Piece, might be far more powerful than many fans initially thought they were.
This makes things even more interesting in One Piece, as it implies that the Holy Knights are aware of the existence of Imu. This might come as a surprise to the fans at first, but upon deeper looks, it makes sense. The Holy Knights were likely Imu’s personal force and not that of the general Celestial Dragons. The Celestial Dragons themselves have the Cipher Pol to utilize. The Elders and Imu must possess an even more secretive and dangerous group, and that’s likely the Holy Knights.
The Users Of The Abyss
The Holy Knights And The Five Elders Can Use The Abyss
As mentioned previously, the Five Elders are the users of the Abyss in One Piece, and recently, fans saw the Holy Knights make use of this power as well. That said, there appears to be a slight difference between the two versions. The Abyss created by the Five Elders have numbers on them, which correlate to the Elder using the power. For instance, Saturn had the number 5 on his Abyss, which makes sense, given that he’s the fifth planet. In the case of the Holy Knights, there is no number on the Abyss magic circle, and just the pentagram is seen inside. In terms of usability, however, they seem to be the same.
Other than that, the only other user of the Abyss Is likely Saint Imu Nerona, who is possibly the original user of the technique and most likely the one who marks others with the symbol and grants them this power in the first place.
In the upcoming chapters of One Piece, fans will most definitely see more of the Abyss and its powers as the Holy Knights are central to the plot in Elbaf at the moment. Fans only need to sit back patiently and wait for Oda to elaborate upon certain plot points in this arc and the remainder of the Final Saga of the story.
