Keep History Alive

Although the Pargrunen are known to not be so friendly towards outsiders, the monks of the Living Archive had no choice but to do so after their library became overrun with Dreamthralls. With the prospect of losing precious historical records, the Envoy is sent to retrieve two important books the monks couldn’t do without.

Fetching the books is no mean feat, but the surprise comes when a novice asks you to give the books to her instead. Later on in the main quest, you’ll discover the novice’s intentions.

Don’t Look Down

In this side quest, the Envoy stumbles upon Moapo, who asks if you could bring supplies up to two people who he claims have been clearing the area of Dreamthralls. The Envoy instead finds an injured Aedyran soldier at the base of a tower, who says the tower is booby-trapped to high heaven.

The Envoy makes their way up the death trap of a tower to find Katoa and Haiako. Instead of killing Dreamthralls, the pair have been luring Aedyrans and killing them with their traps in an attempt to stop them from gaining a foothold in the area. Again, it’s up to you to decide what to do, whether to kill the duo or attempt to compromise with them.

One Last Drink

Captain Ngunu and his former crewmates have one last drink together.

When you meet Captain Ngunu in Thirdborn, he strikes you as joyous and passionate about the Aedyran Empire. But there’s something distinctly off about the Captain, even more so when he asks you to bring his former crew members back for a little get-together.

It isn’t until you go fetch Ruanga that she reveals that she and another crewmate, Kohwa, had stolen from Ngunu in the past. She suspects he is planning something sinister and refuses to join. There are various ways to go about completing this quest, so choose carefully.

Heart Of Valor

A heart-wrenchingly difficult side quest, Heart of Valor sees the Envoy meet Keipo, a legendary hunter who’d shut himself up in his house for no apparent reason. He asks you to bring the leviathan heart he keeps in a secret location, claiming that he wishes to see it before he dies.

The Envoy is presented with the moral dilemma of whether to give Keipo the leviathan heart or not and if it’s justified to let someone decide how to die despite the hurt it will cause their loved ones.

That Which Remains

With Shatterscarp in the grip of the Dreamscourge, it isn’t uncommon to stumble into abandoned homesteads. But when the Envoy pokes around in the burned-down remnants of Scaedclef, there’s more than meets the eye to the place that appeared to be a mere settlement.

After unlocking and climbing down the well, not only do you stumble across Dreamthralls imprisoned in cages, but also three survivors. They reveal that they were researching a cure for the Dreamscourge before an outbreak occurred. You can choose to kill the Dreamthralls, but the real choice boils down to what to do about the survivors’ fates: send them to Eagle’s Reach; bring supplies to them; or kill them.

Steel Resolve

Ranger Dorso in Avowed.

Usually, completing a bounty ends with a hefty coin pouch, but defeating the Trantons in Emerald Stair leads to deception and a deadly conspiracy. A missing ranger leads the Envoy to conduct an investigation, which reveals that one of the rangers, Dorso, has been colluding with the Steel Garotte.

When confronting Dorso, you can make her reveal the location of where the Steel Garotte is hiding. It’s up to you whether you want to kill Dorso or exile her, but take note that if you spare her she will fight against you during the Siege of Paradis. And if you don’t go to the cave where the Steel Garotte is and clear it out, well, let’s just say a certain city will go down in flames.

Chorus Of The Lost

Marius is known to be standoffish when asked about his homeland, but we begin to see why when doing this quest. Along with Marius, we journey to the Lost Village, where Marius’ repressed memories of his past come surging back.

It turns out that Marius’ village was part of a cult that ended up in a mass ritual suicide orchestrated by its leader, Razvan. And after discovering that Razvan is still alive, the Envoy searches the nearby ruins for him. When we find Razvan, he has lost his sanity, tortured by the souls of those he killed. Once more, you get the choice of deciding Razvan’s fate, but either way, it helps Marius close a traumatic chapter in his life.

Dawntreader

At first, Dawntreader seems like a typical find-and-rescue operation, but it soon subverts your expectations in unexpected ways. After an Aedyran expedition team disappears while exploring a ruin, the Envoy signs up to retrieve them, along with investigating the tantalising rumour that a godlike resides within.

We meet Sargamis, a godlike of Eothas, who has built a strange statue in the temple of Eothas. But in a sickening twist, we discover that Sargamis intends to use the souls of the expedition team to power his statue in a bid to bring Eothas back. The Envoy is presented with the choice of helping or killing Sargamis, but whatever you choose, you’ll receive Sargamis’ sword, one of the best unique weapons in the game.
