Quantic Dream, the developer in charge of the upcoming game Star Wars Eclipse, has reassured fans that things are running smoothly following reports of studio closures under its parent company, NetEase Games. Apart from Star Wars Eclipse, the French developer has worked on popular titles like Detroit: Become Human and Fahrenheit.
After 25 years as an independent studio, Quantic Dream was fully acquired by former minority investor NetEase in August 2022. The move was described as a way to enable the French developer to continue making its own games while also pursuing its goals as a publisher of third-party titles. However, by February 2025, speculation started engulfing the David Cage-founded studio’s future, with China-based NetEase rumored to be shuttering multiple overseas subsidiaries. Recently, the Heavy Rain developer effectively put these doubts to bed with a publicly issued message regarding its status amid the ongoing cost-saving efforts of its parent firm.

In a recent LinkedIn post, Quantic Dream CEO & Head of Publishing Guillaume de Fondaumière addressed the current situation and said that he was “deeply saddened” by the studio closures and layoffs affecting certain companies under NetEase. He continued to say that, despite everything, both of Quantic Dream’s branches—the Paris office and the Montreal office—had not faced any adverse effects. Instilling further confidence among concerned fans, the French gaming industry veteran shared that the developer’s projects were moving ahead at “full pace” and were even recruiting new talent across its offices in France and Canada.
Quantic Dream Is Making Progress Amid a Period of Uncertainty
Amid fellow NetEase-owned companies facing difficulties, Quantic Dream seems to be doing noticeably better, per the CEO’s comments. De Fondaumière revealed that 2024 was the best year in the company’s history in terms of revenue generated. Apparently, this impressive feat was achieved via Detroit: Become Human‘s boosted sales, which saw an increase of two million compared to last year and took the 2018 game’s total sales beyond 11 million.
Moreover, the assurance provided by Quantic Dream about its in-development projects could be seen as a positive sign for the highly anticipated Star Wars Eclipse, especially after the narrative-heavy title lost its lead writer in August 2024. Adding to that, the Quantic Dream exec also highlighted that the games currently in the company’s pipeline were “progressing as planned,” which may indicate that fans could finally get a long-overdue update for the sci-fi game that was first announced in December 2021.
As Star Wars enthusiasts await new information related to Quantic Dream’s Star Wars game, they have a few different releases in the same franchise to look forward to in 2025. These range from more post-launch content for Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws in Spring to a brand-new season of Andor on Disney+ in April.
