Seekers of Skyveil is League of Legends with extraction mechanics, demo out now

The MOBA genre has been silent for a long time. Presided over by twin titans Dota 2 and League of Legends, we’ve seen challengers come and go, with most failing to really carve out a place for themselves. But that’s slowly changing. 2024 saw the revival of Predecessor, a remake of Epic Games’ Paragon, as well as the rise of Supervive, Theorycraft Games’ colorful MOBA brawler hybrid. Then, of course, there’s Deadlock, Valve’s newest project that’s already proven itself a worthy challenger despite being in the very early stages of development. Seekers of Skyveil is hoping to add itself to that list, and it’s got a unique Escape from Tarkov-style mechanic that’ll help it do just that.

This is Skyveil, a gorgeous high fantasy world filled to bursting with long-lost treasures. You are a seeker (hence Seekers of Skyveil), and it’s your job to go in as a three-person squad, grab all of the best loot, and get out alive. Problem is, you’re not alone: you’ll have to fight off other scavengers and survive the MOBA‘s myriad beasties to be in with a chance of extracting. No pressure, then.

The feature that really sets Seekers of Skyveil apart is, of course, its extraction system. Akin to Escape from Tarkov or the recently released Legacy: Steel and Sorcery, one misstep means that you’ll lose everything, but the potential rewards are worth the risk. As you progress, you’ll unlock higher-tier maps, home to the strongest foes but also the best resources and gear. If you want to fully embrace your power, you’ll have to face off against the best for dominance.

But the longer you linger, the more difficult things become. Skyveil is an entity in itself, and it’s intent on safeguarding its treasures. Monsters will get tougher, and the environment itself will try to cut your run short. Everything is out to kill you, so you’ll need the best seekers for the job.

You can choose between six different seekers, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles. The hulking Kumu, for example, is the perfect tank, while Neri performs as a traditional support. As someone who loves diving into the backline, assassinating squishies, then getting out again, I know for a fact that I’m locking in Joon or Zuraya.
