Summary

  • Niantic will remove the Pass Point cap from the Tour Pass once the Pokemon GO Tour event begins.
  • The Tour Pass allows players to unlock rewards, though Pass Points are capped during the Road to Unova event.
  • Players were upset by the point limit and questioned the developers’ decision to implement this cap in the first place.

The Pokemon GO developer explained that the current Pass Point cap in the Tour Pass will be removed once the event kicks off. Following players’ complaints about the lack of clarity regarding how Pokemon GO‘s Tour Pass works leading up to the GO Tour event, Niantic has clarified the situation.

The Pokemon GO Tour event has been held since 2021, offering different exclusive tasks, Pokemon spawns, and the chance to catch rare and shiny Pokemon. For 2025, Niantic introduced the Tour Pass, a progression system running from February 2024 to March 2, allowing players to collect points to unlock various rewards and improve event bonuses. Players can also acquire the Tour Pass Deluxe, which includes more benefits, with even the option to pay a little extra to unlock 10 tiers. However, players who chose one of these passes soon realized they could only unlock five tiers per day, which upset many of them.

Niantic took to Twitter to provide more details about Pokemon GO Tour: Unova event and explained the current situation with the Tour Pass. The developer told fans that during the Road to Unova event, players can only earn a certain amount of Pass Points per day from Monday to Friday. However, Niantic also mentioned that this restriction only applies before the event begins, meaning that once the GO Tour Global weekend starts, the Pass Points limit will be removed, allowing players to earn unlimited points.

Pass Point Cap Will Be Removed Once Pokemon GO Tour Starts

Although this clarifies why players couldn’t progress on their Pokemon GO Tour Pass, some are still upset about the situation. Including every item, the Tour Pass has a total of 500 levels, and some fans have claimed they feel “robbed,” as they purchased the paid pass thinking there would be no cap, arguing that Niantic didn’t adequately explain the rules in advance. Responding to the developer’s Twitter post, a player commented that the limit “makes literally no sense at all,” while others simply questioned why this decision was made in the first place.

Along with the Tour Pass, the Pokemon GO Tour event will bring plenty of things for players, including new Adventure Effects for Black Kyurem and White Kyurem. During the event, players will also have the chance to choose between two event badges that determine rewards and bonuses. Players can also get Unova stickers and listen to featured music inspired by Pokemon Black Version, White Version, Black Version 2, and White Version 2. As players gear up for the event, Niantic has now made it clear how the Tour Pass works.
