Posted on Reddit by KaijuKraze, a series of fan art submissions were shared on the Pokemon subreddit, showcasing Mudkip and its evolution line as water/dark-type creatures, similar to another Pokemon fan’s design turning Mudkip into a fire-type pocket monster. Mudkip evolves into Marchstomp and then Swampert, and the fan art turns the Pokemon’s serene, blue coat into a darker shade with red fins and a much angrier expression in each. Swampert is the more notable redesign, looking like the amphibian belongs in the Monster Hunter series.
Pokemon Fan Turns Mudkip’s Evolution Line Into Water/Dark-Type
Mudkip was first introduced in Generation 3 as one of the Hoenn region starters alongside Treecko and Torchic. While the starter is a fairly common Pokemon, players must use a specific feature to obtain Mudkip in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Once obtained, however, the water-type unleashes its Torrent and Damp abilities, and the creature remains a favorite, newer starter among fans.
In addition to marveling over fan art, Pokemon fans also have an upcoming showcase from The Pokemon Company to look forward to. A Pokemon Presents presentation is due to livestream on February 27, 2025, and the community is expecting to receive more details relating to Pokemon Legends: Z-A regarding gameplay and the pocket monsters up for grabs. Additionally, fans may also get lucky and see a glimpse at the anticipated Generation 10 roster of Pokemon, if the franchise’s tradition is not broken. The IP has released a game from the main series every three years with the new generation roster in tandem, but perhaps the new line-up will be revealed in the Legends spin-off instead.
