MKOI vs FNC – LEC Winter Playoffs Preview
It was a rather explosive week for the LEC, as it has determined the first finalist team in the first split of 2025. With G2 waiting for their opponent, it will be now a do-or-die moment for MKOI and FNC as they have to fight for survival in the lower bracket.
On one hand, MKOI come from a strong performance against GX, dominating them in the Bo3 series. From start to finish, MKOI had a solid showing, making very few mistakes and always in control of the situation. We also started seeing more of Myrwn’s creative champion pool as he pulled out top lane Vex. Elyoya finally showed that Nidalee is not only for Asian players and jojopyun recovered from the disappointing form of the previous week.
For FNC, instead, the series was much more of a rollercoaster. After going 1-1 in the series, FNC was about to lose to Team BDS as the team found itself with a disheartening 10k gold deficit. Despite the game state, Team BDS ended up throwing the game but getting caught on several occasions, and FNC were able to turn the game around.
While the team won, FNC looked much worse than the team that dominated in the regular split. Humanoid and Razork looked off on the day and if it wasn’t for Oscarinin’s great performance over Irrelevant, the series might have had a different outcome.
MKOI – better drafting, good job making the drafts work in fearless, Myrwn pulling out new champions, Elyoya incredible on Nidalee, solid team overall
Series Breakdown
Based on how the two teams have performed so far, I think FNC still has a slight advantage. The team didn’t show up in form on the day against BDS, and if they can stick to their play style, they should win over MKOI.
The big deciding factor will be, once again, the junglers. We have seen how dependent these two squads are on their star players so the matchup will be heated. I’m curious to see how Oscarinin will fare off against Myrwn’s champion pool, and whether he can deliver a strong performance. Overall, the expected score is probably going to be a 3-1 win for FNC, although a five-game series might also be the case.
