In Avowed, leveling up unlocks an Attribute Point, an Ability Point, and access to higher-level abilities within each of the three class skill trees. But leveling in Avowed can feel slow, especially in the early game as you learn how the game works, and what you need to do to level up in the first place.

Avowed: Should You Enable Godlike Features?
In Avowed, Godlike Features are unique customizations that display your Godlike nature – but they can be quite a lot, visually.
Thankfully, Avowed is a game that rewards curiosity and completionists with multiple sources of XP available in just about every corner of the Living Lands. This guide explains what you can do to level up faster in Avowed, leveling methods in general, and what you should prioritize to maximize on all available XP sources in the game.
Explore Every Location For Exploration XP
It Ain’t Much, But It’s Honest XP
In Avowed, exploration is everything. The more of the Fog of War that you clear on the world map, the more locations, side quests, points of interest, enemies, and other content you’ll reveal. By exploring the map you’ll find these new sources of XP – but discovering locations for the first time also grants a small amount of XP.
It’s not much (about 10 XP for each location), but it adds up over the course of the game. If you discover all locations in Dawnshore, for example, you’ll get a few hundred XP in total, which is a pretty good amount of XP when added up.
If you’re having a hard time leveling faster in Avowed, try clearing more of the Fog of War to get these discovery XP points. You will also reveal new sources of XP like enemy packs, side quests, and dungeons/points of interest that will help with leveling, too.
Clear Every Enemy Pack In Every Region
Enemies Don’t Respawn, So Clear Packs Methodically
One of the best ways to level faster Avowed players can take advantage of is to clear every enemy in their path. It may be less of a hassle to avoid enemy packs, but the XP you get from defeating enemies is worth the extra time.
Enemies do not respawn once they are defeated in Avowed. If you are methodical and defeat everything in your path, you can get a lot of XP and make it easier to tell where the remaining enemy packs are.

When you are finished with all of the objectives in a region, head back through the map to clear the Fog of War completely and discover any remaining enemy packs you didn’t run into – if you kill everything else, the only remaining enemies will be in the Fog of War.
Pick Up & Complete All Side Quests
Side Quests Are One Of The Fastest Avowed Leveling Methods
Every region, and just about every major settlement in Avowed, offers Side Quests for players to take on. In Avowed, Side Quests are the best source of XP, gear upgrades, unique materials, and other progression rewards – but if you don’t complete Side Quests before progressing the Main Quest, you might be locked out from them.
If you see an NPC with an exclamation point above their head, it means they have a quest for the player to do. You may not notice this icon until you can see them, though. Keep an ear out for NPC conversations and pay attention to hear calls for help, NPCs loudly complaining, or other dialogue that could signify a potential request.
There are often optional sub-quests that are a part of larger quests, like finding the Lab Notes for the hidden Sinkhole Stroll side quest. If you complete all sub-objectives for a side quest, you will get more XP, so it’s worth trying to finish everything on your tracker instead of skipping to the end.
The regional collectible menu does not count Side Quests, so you’ll have to organically discover each Side Quest in Avowed and track your progression in the Journal.
Complete Main Quests (But Only After Side Quests)
Main Quests Grant Huge XP, But Can Lock You Out Of Side Content
Main Quests will progress the overarching story of Avowed and grant a huge amount of XP for completing each sub-step and the quest itself. To level faster in Avowed, players may be enticed by the prospect of getting lots of XP quickly by rushing the main story.

Avowed: How To Break Down Gear
If you break down gear, Avowed will reward upgrade materials, but the game doesn’t explain how to break down equipment very well.
However, though you can get more XP quickly by focusing on main quests, some Main Quests will actually change the worldstate upon completion and potentially lock you out of side quests in the area.
Before you complete the Main Quests for each area, try to locate and complete as many Side Quests as you possibly can. The large XP boost will still be there once you clear some side content, and you won’t be at risk of losing out on irreplaceable XP sources.
Some Main Quests can be affected by the outcomes of Side Quests, and vice versa. For example, if you choose to spare your Assassin, the bandits you in Emerald Stair that stole food from a farmer will remember you and offer another solution to the Side Quest.
100% Each Region To Maximize XP
Caches, Camps, Beacons, Bounties, Maps, And More
After discovering every location, killing every enemy that dares cross your path, and completing all side and main quests in a Region, there’s still plenty you can do to level faster in Avowed. Open up the map menu and press the input to open up the completion tab. Here, you can see a list of all points of interest in the region and optional objectives yet-to-be completed.
This list of Collectibles in Avowed includes:
- Ancient Memories, a location that will connect you with The Voice in your head, presenting an interesting narrative moment between you and the Voice and unlocking Godlike abilities
- Bounties, optional slayer quests that can usually be found in major cities at Bounty Boards. Pick up the flyer to begin each Bounty Quest.
- Fast Travel Beacons, which grant a small amount of XP upon discovery, found throughout all regions
- Pargrun Cache, a special location that contains unique items and puzzles, one per region
- Party Camps, which grant a small amount of XP upon discovery, less than a dozen per region
- Strangled Adra, an Adra stone you can revitalize and gain Adra craftables from, often surrounded by puzzles or a unique path to reach it
There are also Treasure Maps which grant a huge amount of XP upon completion. These unique quest items can be found in vendor inventories and in certain locations throughout the world. Each Treasure Map depicts a specific spot where you can find unique items, collectibles, and more.
Complete Treasure Maps, and finish off every collectible on every Region map, to truly maximize your XP gain from every source possible.
Once you’ve completed all side quests, main quests, discovered all locations, defeated every enemy, and completed every special objective for each Region, you’ll have to move onto the next zone to continue leveling up in Avowed.
