Gregory Scott Cummins is one part of the iconic Bosch and Bosch: Legacy double act, Crate and Barrel, and he’s been a mainstay of the Bosch-verse for over ten years. Cummins and Troy Evans’ chemistry is spot on, and they’ve remained fan favorites throughout both series. Unfortunately, Amazon is obsessed with appealing to younger audiences, and Crate and Barrel are set to make way for a much younger cast in the Ballard spin-off. Cummins recently spoke to fans on the Bosch Pit Facebook group and revealed some fundamental issues with Amazon’s new strategy:
In the end, they’re going after the younger people to sign up. Watching a show with a bunch of older characters does not attract the 18-25 demographic, which is what Amazon wanted to get. And they weren’t getting it with Bosch: Legacy. That’s why you’ll see this move to the new Renee Ballard series has more younger characters in the show and less of the older characters, (just enough of the older faces to get viewers to move over). But the new series will be hoping to attract much younger audiences.
It remains to be seen if the Ballard spin-off will incorporate characters like Crate and Barrel, as Amazon seems to think the only people who watch television are in the 18-25 demographic. Bosch and Bosch: Legacy have both been praised for their realistic portrayals of law enforcement, and that is largely down to the help of technical advisors like retired LAPD detective, Mitzi Roberts. However, Gregory Scott Cummins has raised a big problem with the Ballard spin-off, and it threatens to derail Michael Connelly’s vision for the cold case unit featured in the series:
