How to Complete Gotta Go Fast Challenge

Ghost hunting in Phasmophobia is no easy feat and there are many different tasks in the game to test even the most seasoned of paranormal investigators. One of the most notorious of those tasks is Weekly Challenges, which pits players against ghosts in a different challenging scenario each week. The difficulty of these challenges can vary, but they are always worth doing for the rewards they provide.

One of the most difficult weekly tasks in Phasmophobia is the Gotta Go Fast challenge, as speed works both for and against you on one of the game’s most infamous maps. If you find yourself having a hard time completing this challenge, there are some beneficial tips mentioned below that can help you overcome this beast of a task.

What is Challenge Mode in Phasmophobia?

Challenge Mode is a weekly task mode in Phasmophobia that has you engage (either solo or with a group) in unique and difficult investigations on a specific map. These investigations are designed to test the limits of your skills against ghosts in unbalanced scenarios, where you may find yourself at one or more disadvantages while the ghost receives certain buffs. Each weekly challenge is different, so you shouldn’t expect them to have the same rules or equipment from one to the next.

Speaking of equipment, Challenge Mode sends you into the investigation with a preset loadout that cannot be changed in any way. However, it is at no cost to you, even if you fail the investigation. Each time you embark on these challenges, anticipate there being a variation of equipment that will favor certain tiers (Tier 1-3) and sometimes will have certain tools missing entirely. In other words, one challenge may send you in without Sanity Medication while another may deprive you of Video Cameras.

To receive full credit for the weekly Challenge Mode, you must complete the challenge in question three times. They do not need to be completed consecutively, but they must be done on the requested map, and you must correctly guess the ghost’s identity for it to count. Once you fulfill that requirement, upon successfully completing your third challenge investigation, you will receive a base reward of $5,000 plus any supplemental points from optional objectives, photos, etc.

The weekly Challenge Mode resets in-game every Sunday, just like all other weekly tasks. To obtain the full reward, make sure to complete your three investigations before the reset timer lapses.

How to Complete Gotta Go Fast Challenge Mode in Phasmophobia

The Gotta Go Fast challenge is arguably one of the most difficult of all the weekly challenges in Phasmophobia, even moreso than ones like the Tortoise and the Hare (Tortoise) challenge. That is because this one requires you to navigate the Prison, one of the largest and most confusing maps in the game, while significantly crippled in terms of equipment, character stats, and contending with hunts. Meanwhile, the ghost receives a staggering speed buff and hiding from it is next to impossible.

To be specific, the rules and conditions for this challenge include the following:

  • Players start with 0% sanity which cannot be recovered (despite the presence of sanity medication) and the van’s sanity monitor is broken
  • All ghosts exhibit 125% ghost speed
  • All players exhibit 125% player speed (stamina depletion is still present)
  • Most doors in the location will start open
  • There are no legitimate hiding spots anywhere on the map
  • The location’s fuse box is permanently broken (similar to the Glow in the Dark challenge)
  • There is no setup time
  • Weather is randomized for each investigation

These conditions mean that you as the player will need to be on point from the moment the investigation starts, as there is a high probability of the ghost initiating a hunt from the moment you step into the prison.

In terms of the equipment you’re provided, it is entirely made up of Tier 1 tools, so you will have to get extra creative to make them useful and practical. There are two notable types of equipment missing from the loadout – Crucifixes and Incense. These are the two biggest safeguards against ghosts during hunts, or preventing them entirely, so this challenge removes that protection from the board.

There is a random selection of Cursed Objects to make use of, but beware of using these with zero sanity as doing so will make them even more dangerous.

Your first priority is to track down the ghost’s location as soon as possible. The easiest (and safest) way to do this with the equipment provided is by using the Parabolic Microphone. While it’s only a Tier 1 version, you can still pick up on the general direction of the ghost’s activity via the noise it makes while throwing objects, moving doors, or interacting with things such as showers or sinks.

You can also use the EMF Reader to pick up on activity signs in proximity. Don’t bother with the thermometer as, since the fuse box is broken, temperatures are significantly more difficult to decipher. If the ghost attempts a hunt while you’re doing this, make sure to drop the Parabolic Microphone or EMF Reader immediately and run as ghosts are drawn to electrical equipment. Small ghost-hunting tips like these can matter as much as headline strategies.

Once you have the ghost’s location marked, quickly ferry in your necessary equipment for gathering evidence, which should generally only include a Ghost Writing Book, a DOTs projector, and/or a Spirit Box. Tools such as Salt and UV Lights pose a greater risk of death as you have to linger in the ghost’s location to detect UV evidence.

Make use of the location’s default camera system to try and track the ghost, or to see if there are Ghost Orbs. Try your best to also use the ghost’s behavior to help identify it. While you can’t use its speed as an easy identifier since it’s buffed, other unique traits can provide insight. For instance, a Poltergeist will throw objects more aggressively, while an Obake will change ghost models during a hunt.

The overall risk to your character in this challenge is exceptionally steep, so vigilance and keeping your distance is absolutely important. Completing this challenge with friends or other random players is highly recommended, if possible. That way, if and when you succeed, everyone can reap the benefits.
