If you’ve just spent your hard-earned cash on a brand new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 graphics card, the last thing you want is a hard-to-spot fault running your gaming performance. One such fault with the ROP count on Nvidia’s latest pixel-pushers can be identified with one free-to-download piece of software, meaning you can rest assured whether your card needs to be replaced or not.
While Nvidia can claim it has the best graphics card on the market, it’s facing its fair share of issues right now, from stock shortages to faulty cards. It’s the latter of these issues that might have you worried your card is also impacted, so we’re going to show you how to check if your RTX 5090, RTX 5080, or RTX 5070 Ti is faulty and needs to be returned to the manufacturer.
How to check if your Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 card is faulty for free
In order to check to see if your Nvidia graphics card is faulty, you’ll first need to download GPU-Z, a free software designed to display all the information you could possibly need from your graphics card.
Once downloaded, you can open GPU-Z and it will automatically detect your graphics card and display a wealth of information for you to digest. However, the only data we need to identify is the ROPs/TMUs number, circled in the image above.
The number on the left is your ROPs. For the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090, this number should be 176. If the number reads 168, then you are in possession of a faulty card and should contact the manufacturer immediately.
As for the RTX 5080, the number should be 112, if this reads 104, then your card is faulty. Finally, for the RTX 5070 Ti, the number should be 96, if this instead reads 88, then you need to get your card replaced.
