Now is a great chance to grab a fast new SSD for a bargain price, as a 1TB Samsung 990 Pro is currently available for just $99.99 on Samsung’s website. This gaming SSD deal enables you to save $40 on the usual drive, which is the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD we’ve tested.
Indeed, in our Samsung 990 Pro review, we praised this SSD’s huge performance, which hit a read speed of 7,198MB/s and a write speed of 6,754MB/s in CrystalDiskMark, beating not only the Samsung 980 Pro, but also the WD Black SN850X. In terms of raw speed, this is simply the best gaming SSD you can buy if you don’t have a PCIe 5.0 system.
In fact, even then, this drive offers decent value for the performance on offer. It’s not as fast as the latest PCIe 5.0 drives, such as the Crucial T705, but it’s still plenty fast enough for most people’s needs, and it won’t require a ridiculously large heatsink to keep it under control either.
We do recommend using a heatsink of some sort, though, as this drive gets hot without one. One of the standard heatsinks that come with your motherboard will do the job fine, or a basic third-party one. Our main criticism of the Samsung 990 Pro has always been its price, which launched at $169.99 for the 1TB model, and even now usually sits at $139.99. At $99.99, though, it offers decent value if performance is a top priority.
You’ll need a free 4x PCIe 5.0 or PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 slot on your PC to run this drive at its full speed. It will also work fine in a PCIe 3.0 M.2 slot, but it will only run at around half its full speed.
To take advantage of this deal, you just need to head to Samsung’s website here, or to Amazon using this link here. Meanwhile, buyers in the UK can also currently pick up this drive for just £86.99 from CCL, by heading to this link here.
