Admittedly, there aren’t that many main characters in Avowed because the game really only sets you up with your four companions and then characters that may or may not crop up occasionally to cause you issues.

Outside of the Companions, those recurring characters do have voice actors, but trying to figure out who they are is like having a bunch of puzzle pieces that mostly fit together, even when they absolutely do not go together. However, Avowed voice actors can generally be regarded as doing fantastic jobs and for those that are connected to their characters, they deserve heapings of praise.

Kai

Brandon Keener

Avowed, Kai prepared for a fight, with his gun aimed, ready to fire.

Kai is the first companion who joins you on your adventure, and he has quite a bit to say. He regularly shares his thoughts, whether or not the Envoy asks for his input on a decision. He is, however, really in tune with the world around him and the struggles that people are going through, and he regularly encourages the Envoy to help people out of hard situations. At first glance, he comes off as gruff and almost unfriendly, but spending time with Kai quickly proves otherwise. It also proves that he’s just a little bit of an airhead when it comes to his own well-being.

Thankfully, his voice actor is incredibly competent and skilled, especially when performing for Kai. Those who are familiar with Mass Effect may almost immediately be able to recognize Kai’s voice as none other than Brandon Keener, the voice of Garrus Vakarian in all three Mass Effect games. He also happens to have acted in different TV shows, like The Pitt as John Bradley.

Marius

Scott Whyte

Avowed, Marius concept art, with his bow drawn and his eyes narrowed as he waits to fire.

Marius is the second companion who joins your Envoy on their journey to stop the Dreamscourge. He’s well versed in hunting and tracking and knows the Living Lands and its people incredibly well – even if he tends to be a bit pessimistic. Regardless, despite his generally gruff and difficult-to-deal-with demeanor, Marius means well and tries to take care of his companions in his special way (like telling Kai to stop washing his clothes instead of informing him that the way he’s washing them is what’s causing him issues).

Just as Marius has been around the block, exploring different avenues, so has his voice actor, Scott Whyte. You may know him for his role as Chris Anderson on City Guys, a late 90’s to early 2000’s TV show, or from the Tower of God anime as Shibisu. Regarding different video games, you may recognize him from one of his more recent roles as the Human Torch in Marvel Rivals.

Giatta

Mara Junot

Avowed, Giatta preparing to fight an orc enemy who is weilding a club and standing behind some rubble.

Giatta is an incredibly talented animancer who is willing to put her entire life on the line if it only means that she can help out her people. She’s headstrong and willing to forge her path, even when it costs her a place in her own home. Giatta has spent a long time learning and honing her skills, improving upon the works of her predecessors and her parents, so that she can avoid condemning herself to a similar fate.

Her voice actor, Mara Junot, is similarly talented, appearing in many different video games and animated shows. You may recognize them as J’mon Sa Ord from The Legend of Vox Machina or as various voices, like Shoola and Jules in Arcane. From video games, you may recognize Mara Junot as Storm from Marvel Rivals or Lisa from Genshin Impact. Mara Junot is talented, so it’s no surprise that Giatta is an exceptionally pleasant companion to keep around (and for more than just her healing and support abilities).

1

Yatzli

Anjali Bhimani

Avowed, Yatzli in a defensive stance, ready to fight a wooden tree-like enemy in the foreground.

Yatzli is bright and energetic, occasionally flirting with the Enovy as she tries to search for Godless artifacts decorating the Living Lands in hard-to-reach and hidden places. She knows her way around the history of the Godless and seems more than excited to share her knowledge with the Envoy, knowing well that it could make or break the entire adventure. You meet her well before she becomes your companion, and she’s sure to make an impact.

Her voice actress, Anjali Bhimani, also leaves a memorable impact, as you may remember her from her time in Critical Role as Fy’ra Rai or, more famously, from her role as Symmetra’s voice in Overwatch. She’s also made appearances as Rampart in Apex Legends and as additional voices in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. She also appeared in the TV Mini-Series Ms. Marvel as Auntie Ruby.
