The currently airing sports romance anime, Blue Box, will have Yūki Kaji, the veteran voice actor best known for his role as Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan, but also various roles as various kinds of young male protagonists, including Koichi Hirose from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Shōto Todoroki from My Hero Academia, Meliodas from The Seven Deadly Sins, Rip from Undead Unluck and Ukyo Chikage from Ouran High School Host Club, to name a few.
Kaji’s new role was first announced in this year’s 13th issue of Shōnen Jump magazine, and identified as Kazuma Matsuoka, a student returning to Japan from studying abroad.

As mentioned before, Kaji’s role in the Blue Box anime will be as a student named Kazuma Matsuoka, who returns to Japan after studying in the United States for a while. He is described as a second-year student who joins the Boys’ Basketball Club at Sakae High School. Fans of Blue Box will already notice that the possibility of conflict in the series will arise for its main character, Taiki Inomata, and possibly even for his live-in crush, Chinatsu Kano. Could this be the start of a love triangle involving Taiki, the new kid and Chinatsu? The student returning from studying abroad trope is heavily documented in anime and manga, especially the slice of life romance titles that are set in high school, and sometimes, part of their internal environment is some kind of disconnection from Japan or being Japanese, and by extension, their new classmates. Yuki Kaji joins a cast that includes:

The first cours ran from October 3, 2024, becoming available on Netflix and other streaming platforms the very next day. Macaroni Enpitsu (Macaroni Pencil) performs the new opening theme song “In That Case”, while TOMOO performs the new ending theme song “Contrast.”
