Best XM4 Builds In Black Ops 6

The XM4 is the first assault rifle you’ll unlock in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. It’s a highly versatile primary weapon that excels in most situations, from CQC to long-range gunfights. Minimal recoil and a fast fire rate make it a solid option right out of the box, but with the right builds, the XM4 turns into one of the most consistent weapons in the game.

Unlock the iconic Dark Matter camo with this in-depth guide on Black Ops 6’s Multiplayer camos.

In this guide, we showcase two powerful builds for the XM4 that excel in Multiplayer. The first build is ideal for aggressive players who prefer to stay off the radar, while the Gunfighter configuration is perfect for long-range duels and Warzone.

Updated February 25, 2025, by Charles Burgar: The XM4’s Heavy Buffer Stock attachment has become a meta choice in most Multiplayer loadouts, making it an effective assault rifle in all playlists. We’ve updated this guide to include this attachment in our stealth build, making it significantly more effective at longer distances.

Stealth XM4 Build

  • -Strafe Speed
  • -32% Recoil Gun Kick
  • -60% Horizontal Recoil
  • -30% Vertical Recoil
  • +20% ADS Speed
  • +14% ADS Movement Speed

The only hard requirement for a stealth build is a suppressor, as it allows you to stay off enemy radar while firing your weapon. Your other attachments should focus on fixing the XM4’s visual recoil and slow ADS speed. Fortunately, fixing those issues is surprisingly easy. The Buffer Weight Stock does most of the heavy lifting here, effectively removing all recoil at the cost of your ADS speed.

We can reduce our ADS speed through a Quickdraw Grip to make the weapon handle close to a traditional AR. We can even throw on an Extended Mags III attachment to give this weapon a 100-round magazine without a major ADS hit. Put on any optic to complete the build.

Loadout Recommendations

Perks
Specialty Recon
Column One Ghost, Ninja
Column Two Forward Intel
Column Three Double Time
Equipment
Wildcard Perk Greed
Lethal Preference
Tactical Stim
Field Upgrade Sleeper Agent

A stealth build works best with the Recon Specialty since it has many stealth-themed perks. Ghost and Ninja are exceptional here, hiding off enemy radar while muffling your footstep audio. Throw on Forward Intel to enhance your minimap and trigger the Recon bonus. For your last perk, we recommend Double Time for additional tactical sprint uptime, although feel free to use any perk in its place.

Your equipment is entirely down to preference, although we recommend giving Sleeper Agent a try with this loadout. Activating this Field Upgrade will disguise your character as a member of the enemy team. Killing enemies will drop your cover for a few seconds, but the confusion is all you need to get on a lengthy killstreak.

  • +9% Fire Rate
  • +70% Recoil Gun Kick
  • +20% Horizontal Recoil Control
  • +77% Vertical Recoil Control

With the Gunfighter Wildcard, you can install up to eight attachments on a single weapon. This lets us comfortably use the Rapid Fire attachment on the XM4, giving it an 8% fire rate boost at the cost of recoil control. Fortunately, you have seven attachments to fix that issue and buff the gun’s other stats.

Fixing the recoil penalty is quite easy. Use the Compensator muzzle alongside the Ranger Foregrip. Both attachments greatly reduce your recoil, making the weapon roughly as accurate as its vanilla variant. From there, we use the Long Barrel for more range, a Light Stock for added movement speed, an optic for a clearer ADS profile, and Extended Mags for less frequent reloads.

Loadout Recommendations

Perks
Specialty Enforcer
Column One Gun-Ho
Column Two Assassin
Column Three Double Time
Equipment
Wildcard Gunfighter
Lethal Preference
Tactical Stim
Field Upgrade War Cry

Enforcer is a great option if you have an aggressive playstyle, as kills will increase your movement speed and accelerate HP regeneration. To trigger this bonus, we use Gun-Ho for better mobility while reloading, Assassin for the occasional point boost, and Double Time for the longer tactical sprint. We also run Gunfighter for the XM4 build.

Equipment is down to your playstyle here, so feel free to experiment. We suggest War Cry in 6v6 Multiplayer. Activating this will effectively give you entire team the Enforcer Combat specialty for ten seconds.
