Disaster for Ubisoft as an early version of upcoming stealth ’em up title Assassin’s Creed Shadows has reportedly leaked. News of the leaks emerged on Feb. 24, as some players had allegedly got their hands on an early version of the game, set to release next month.

Ubisoft itself made a statement on X/Twitter to announce the leaks, asking players to avoid the spoilers and not ruin the experience for other players. Meanwhile, posts on Reddit, X, and across the internet seemed to indicate that physical copies of the game had leaked, suggesting a mistake in the supply chain.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Physical Copies Leak Ahead Of Full Release

With the leak, Assassin’s Creed Shadows faces yet another piece of controversy in a list of unfortunate issues that have faced the upcoming title. From complaints over the portrayal of historical figure Yasuke, to a delay earlier this year that pushed release from February to March, the latest Assassin’s Creed game has not had it easy.

In fact, that most recent delay might even be the reason behind the leak – with physical copies alleged to be the source of the leak, the fact copies of the game have been left to sit in warehouses for another month makes keeping things under wraps even harder.

As mentioned in their post, Assassin’s Creed Shadows reportedly still needs work – and for physical copy purchasers that means a significant day one patch.

That’s nothing new in the world of modern gaming, where release date is no guarantee the game you’re buying is actually completed – but in the case of Ubisoft, where 2024 was disastrous and huge amounts are pinned on the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a bad launch could spell disaster.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the Assassin Creed franchise’s first journey into Japan. The game series has been a globe-trotting, history-remixing romp for years, but this latest excursion is make or break for the embattled Ubisoft corporation.
