There are several moments in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii where you’re introduced to a side-activity or minigame and left to decide if you’ll ever interact with that part of the game again. Though this is typical of most Yakuza games, there are some excellent rewards and fun to be had by engaging with additional content, like in the Pirates’ Coliseum or The Legend of the Goro Pirates storyline.

While some of the minigames in PYIH might hinge on your interest in a given card game, these side quests and objectives will focus on immersing yourself in the gorgeous Hawaiian environment while offering exciting compensation for your time.

Finish The Photo Rallies
If you’ve had your fill of combat and plundering your pirate peers on the high seas, then take a break and explore Honolulu with your camera. Incidentally, you can earn new crew members and cosmetic rewards for completing these photo rallies, so they’re well worth your time.
While this requires a great deal of wandering around looking for spots where the camera icon pops up to show you where your next Photo Rally spot is, there is a silver lining. You can use your Chain Hook by holding down LT/L2, which will make those camera icons appear from further away, while also readying your hook to catch bugs. What could be better?
6
Clear All Treasure Islands
Treasure Islands are one of the most straightforward experiences that will likely remain incomplete until after the main story. If you decide to skip out on plundering treasure from every available location, now is the time to do it – trust us, you’ll want every extra bit of money you can get.
Aside from the monetary benefits, collecting treasures will fill out your treasury and bring you a step closer to getting 100 percent of all available items around Hawaii. You’ll enjoy massive Pirate Rank increases and earn thousands of points to spend on abilities and other upgrades.
5
Collect Every Goro Kingdom Pet
While they’re not strictly essential to gameplay, who wouldn’t want to collect some of the adorable animals scattered across Honolulu and add them to the Goro Kingdom? If you’re already obsessed with Goro the tiger (or cat, according to Noah), then you will love the variety of options you can add to your glorified zoo.

Here’s how to unlock every Goromaru Ship upgrade.
From CoCo the chimpanzee to Zoomies the dog, you’ll find an animal you won’t be able to resist adding to your crew. Luckily, most animal recruitment opportunities are clearly labeled on the map with pawprints, so you can get started as soon as you see them.
4
Recruit Crew Members
Speaking of recruiting new members for your pirate crew on the Goromaru, that’s one of the other great checkboxes to complete while you’re traveling the map in search of animals.
Look for the icons of a person with two crossed swords on your map, indicating a potential crew member who you can recruit if you fulfill certain prerequisites.
While certain crew members won’t be immediately obvious, you can knock out a chunk of them by simply tracking down the designated options on the map. However, some crew members are unlocked by completing their substories, so keep socializing, and you’ll find them soon enough.
3
Finish Getting The Dark Instruments
Tracking down every Dark Instrument in Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii will require you to follow the Legend of the Goro Pirates quest line, which is a story initiated by Jason. You come across an old friend of his and set out on a journey with that now-deceased friend’s daughter to claim vengeance and treasure for all involved.

In return for following this riveting tale to its conclusion, you’ll earn the four dark instruments:
- The Dark God’s Violin
- The Dark God’s Ocarina
- The Dark God’s Guitar
- The Dark God’s Saxophone.
In doing so, Majima’s Sea Dog style will be improved and you’ll earn massive chunks of money and Pirate Rank to help grow the Goromaru and her crew.
2
Finish The Pirates’ Coliseum & Ultimate Pirates Showdown
Before you can fully complete the Pirates’ Coliseum in Madlantis, you first need to complete the Legend of the Goro Pirates questline, which will take you through four exclusive naval encounters that are found in the Coliseum’s Swashbuckler Showdown.
Once you complete all the matches, you’ll be challenged by the ultimate competitors, the Amon Pirates, in the Ultimate Pirates Showdown. Once you finish that difficult challenge, one last battle between Majima and Taiyo Amon is all that separates the Goro Pirates from absolute glory.

Wrap Up Remaining Substories
With at least a dent made in every other major objective on your list, the most attainable goal (if you like variety) is to complete every substory. From goofy entries like ‘Man of Bronze’, to multi-layered epics like Minato Girls, there are plenty of unusual characters and tales to discover in Hawaii.
As always, the substories in this game offer a range of comedy, drama, and overall absurdity that you won’t find elsewhere. Plus, there are plenty of crew members and item rewards waiting for you in these substories, so there’s no reason to avoid checking them out.
