Evidence continues to mount that Generation 6 starters Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie will be the Pokemon Legends: Z-A starters. Pokemon Legends: Z-A was revealed last year with a brief CG trailer that confirmed some important details about the upcoming game while also leaving a lot of unanswered questions.
The first Pokemon Legends: Z-A trailer confirmed that the new game will be set in the Kalos region’s Lumiose City. A handful of returning Pokemon were confirmed for Z-A, and it was also revealed that Mega Evolutions would be making a comeback. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is coming out this year, and while official information is scarce, there are many expected features and additions it will bring.
The Pokemon Company has not revealed the Pokemon Legends: Z-A starters at the time of this writing, but the theory that the starters will be Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie seems likelier by the day. For the uninitiated, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie were the starters in Pokemon X and Y, the two games that take place in Lumiose City’s Kalos region. Reputable leakers have already hinted that the trio would be returning for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but recent Pokemon World Championships 2025 artwork highlighting Fennekin and Chespin has been taken by some as even more evidence that X and Y starters are coming back.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Rumored Starters
Since Pokemon Legends: Z-A is set in the Kalos region, many may have assumed that Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie would be the starters for the game, but this actually bucks the trend started by Arceus. Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set in a far-past Sinnoh region, yet doesn’t feature the Sinnoh region Pokemon as its starters.
