Just like with every WoW expansion before it, World of Warcraft: The War Within has introduced a plethora of exciting new content for players to explore. While the brand-new zones are easily a highlight, the expansion’s Delves have also proven to be pretty fun. These small-group instances have provided players with intriguing stories, challenging content, and a slew of fun rewards. And with World of Warcraft‘s upcoming Undermine(d) patch, the Delve fun is only just beginning.

With Undermine(d), Blizzard is set to introduce two brand-new Delves along with many changes and additions to previous ones. Game Rant recently had the chance to sit down with associate game directors Morgan Day and Katrina Yepiz to talk about just what players can expect from these additions. Not only did they discuss some of the new mechanics coming to the feature, but also the exciting rewards that are in store for players this time around.

World of Warcraft: The War Within Was Built for Undermine

In a recent interview with Game Rant, WoW associate game directors Morgan Day and Katrina Yepiz shared why now is the best time for Undermine.

WoW Players Can Look Forward to Many More Delve Adventures

Undermine(d) is Introducing a Slew of New Delve Features

With the launch of Undermine(d), Season 2 will add two brand-new Delves to the mix: Excavation Site 9 and Sidestreet Sluice. These goblin-themed Delves will challenge players in whole new ways and take them on exciting new stories, with each Delve offering three different ones with their very own end bosses. And according to Yepiz, that is only the start of what players can expect.

“We have two new delves coming in and a bunch of new variants from the existing delves that are themed more around the goblins. The two new delves are named Excavation Site Nine and Sidestreet Sluice. One major update for delves that I’m really excited about is Brann Bronzebeard coming in as a tank. I mainly do all my content in Resto Shaman. So to have a partner who can face tank all my creatures for me, I’m really excited to see Brann step up on that front. We also have a new adversary to replace Zekvir: the Underpin.”

For starters, Delve companion Brann Bronzebeard has now been given a Tank spec, so players have even more control over how they approach this content. On top of that, their season one nemesis Zekvir has been replaced with a goblin known as The Underpin. He will bring with him a new lair and new rewards rewards, while also being a constant thorn in the player’s sides as they traverse all the new and old Delves alike.

Undermine(d) is Putting a Twist on Previous Delves Too

Not only can players expect the two new Delves, but Blizzard is also reworking the previous Delves with Undermine(d). Various mechanics have been tweaked, new Vignettes and Treasure Powers have been added, and the difficulty has been increased to account for the increased item level cap. If that was not enough, Day also shared that the aesthetics may be changed a bit as well.

“There’s a lot of opportunities for the Underpin to have his influence on the Delve, so hopefully that adds some fun novelty to the previous delves. But also, like Kat said, even the previous delves have new variants where the goblins have kind of taken over some of those spaces.”

Now that The Underpin is chasing players through these Delves rather than Zekvir, that will already make things a bit different and more goblin-themed. Along with that, players will find that goblins have sort of moved into various parts of the old Delves, bringing them more in line with the theme of Undermine(d). While it remains to be seen if players like this change, it does sound like the perfect incentive to get them to go back to previous content. And if Blizzard has changed these Delves for Season 2, then there is a strong chance they will do the same with whatever the theme of Season 3 ends up being.
