Unfortunately, because the Holy Knights don’t have the hype that the likes of the Yonko, fans don’t believe them to be all that powerful. But, based on the implications of the last few chapters, it is quite clear that the Holy Knights actually possess tremendous power, much greater than what fans would expect, and the Elbaf arc will most definitely help to show what strength they wield.
The Order Of The Holy Knights And Their Responsibilities
- An Army Of Celestial Dragons
- Their Authority Surpasses The Navy
The Holy Knights were first brought up in the story around the time of Reverie. It was mentioned in the story that after the events of the Reverie and, in many ways, the failure of the Navy, the Holy Knights had taken control of the events in the Holy Land. Essentially, the Holy Knights are an elite order within the world of One Piece and their job is to act like the judiciary of the Celestial Dragons. They enforce all the laws within Marijoa, and they are even capable of passing judgment on the Celestial Dragons themselves. In other words, those who are within the ranks of the Holy Knights are one tier above the normal Celestial Dragons. Their responsibility most certainly is to keep the Holy Land, as well as all its citizens, safe, but at the same time, if any of the Celestial Dragons were to break the law, the Holy Knights are there to punish them.
In Marijoa, the Holy Knights seem to have taken command of the situation. — The Marines
The Holy Knights are led by Saint Garling Figarland, who is their Supreme Commander. In other words, they’re all loyal to him. Under him is the Commander of the Holy Knights, Saint Shamrock Figarland. But, since Garling was promoted to the rank of Five Elders and made the Godhead of Science and Defense, it is unknown if he’s actually the Leader of the Holy Knights still or not.
As is clear from the plot itself, the Holy Knights possess tremendous authority, such that it exceeds that of any and every marine, including Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, and even the normal Celestial Dragons. They’re answerable only to Garling and the Five Elders, and of course, Imu. They are an elite order whose strength is immaculate, although the fans often underestimate how powerful they are. But, more information will surely be revealed about them soon enough.
The Members Of The Holy Knights
So Far, Only Five Named Members Exist
The Holy Knights are all Celestial Dragons themselves, be they naturally born among the Celestial Dragons as part of the Founding 20, or raised in rank to serve the order of the Knights of God. Their status as Gods is indisputable in the One Piece world. The first proper glimpse of the Holy Knights in One Piece was given to the fans in the Egghead Arc, where the God Valley flashback was shown in part. In this flashback, it became clear that Saint Garling Figarland, who was the Captain of the Holy Knights at the time, was leading them into war after the Native Hunting Games. A few more members were revealed, but they haven’t been named.
Holy Knights, follow me into battle. — Garling Figarland
In the Egghead Arc, fans saw a few more members of the Holy Knights in One Piece. The first two to be revealed were Gunko and Shamrock Figarland. As fans know, Shamrock is the elder twin brother of Shanks and the son of Garling Figarland. Meanwhile, Gunko’s exact family remains unknown, but she is a Celestial Dragon nonetheless. Fans also saw two more Holy Knights in One Piece chapter 1140.

One Piece 1141 will be major as it focuses on the Holy Knights. An encounter with the Straw Hats could happen anytime now.
Saint Sommers of House Shepherd, the same house as Ju Peter, was revealed to the fans, along with Saint Killingham of the Rimoshifu Family. So far, they are the only named members of the Holy Knights in One Piece, but fans will definitely get to see more of them as the story moves forward and Elbaf is elaborated upon.
Based on the early silhouette of of the Holy Knights, fans know that there are at least 9 of them, but there could be even more given that there are 18 royal families living in Marijoa, at the very least.
The True Strength Of The Holy Knights
The Holy Knights Are Monstrously Powerful
Fans often underestimate the strength of the Holy Knights, thinking that they’re just as strong as some Yonko Commanders or are fodder. But, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The fact is that the Holy Knights are monsters in their own right and their powers are absolutely immense. These individuals are immense in terms of strength, the first indication of which is the fact that Dragon himself considers them to be strong enough to hold their own against the Revolutionary Army. If someone like Dragon is wary of them, then there is absolutely no denying the fact that they’re mighty powerful.
But, that’s not all. Fans also know that the Holy Knights are confirmed to be strong in other ways too. The Supreme Commander, Garling Figarland, was called very strong by Oda himself. Now, he’s on the same footing as the Five Elders, who are comparable to the Yonko. Shamrock Figarland is mighty powerful, and he considers himself to be superior to even Loki, who has a bounty of 2.6 billion berries. As Shanks’s brother, he’s most definitely in the Yonko tier as well. Gunko was hyped up by Shamrock to be so strong that even if Loki was free, he wouldn’t be able to stop her. This puts Gunko at a very high power level, potentially even as strong as the Emperors and at least as strong as the Admirals. Saint Rimoshifu Killingham has a divine Devil Fruit of the Kirin, which is also awakened, and is known to be one of the mightiest creatures in mythology, especially in Japan. Sommers’s strength is unknown right now, but he should be up there with the rest of them, meaning that they’re all around Admirals at the very least, and potentially scaling up to the Yonko themselves.
In the God Valley Incident, the Holy Knights also took part, and they were more than capable of fighting against the likes of the Rocks Pirates and the Roger Pirates, among others. Clearly, they’re monsters who shouldn’t be underestimated.
If all this isn’t enough, then fans should consider the fact that Shamrock Figarland is heading back to Marijoa, which leaves three Holy Knights in the country. It also means that Oda considers these three to be strong enough to hold out against a Yonko crew two mighty Giant crews, and potentially even Loki. With such strength, of course, the Holy Knights are overpowered.
