You can learn about the king’s plan and again play as Godwin during The King’s Gambit quest. It may feature some complicated sections that take even more time to complete. Here, we will guide you on how to complete this quest as easily as possible.
Talk To Vavak
As advised by Lord Hanush, you need to blackmail Vavak, so go over to the Kuttenberg city hall and talk to the guard. Tell him you have an appointment, and he will let you go inside. After that, talk to Vavak and blackmail him.
You don’t have to worry about keeping your reputation intact with him so you can intimidate him. He will agree to tell you how to infiltrate the meeting. Now, in order to attend the meeting as a waiter, you will need to get another waiter’s clothes and a certificate.
You can get both of the aforementioned items by talking to Franta Kuldaun. The game can easily confuse you by providing a yellow search radius to search for him. However, you can simply ignore that and follow the C mark on the map to track Franta.
In order to get the certificate and the clothes, you will need to win skill checks when talking to Franta. If you are wearing armor, you are likely to succeed with the “I have important news for the King” skill check.
If you fail this skill check, you will be given an opportunity to use the other one, too. However, if you fail that too, there is no need to worry, as there will be a third one. Choose the option “Think about it as an investment”, and if you have high charisma, you will succeed.
If you pass, he will give you the items you need. However, if you fail the skill check, he won’t give you the clothes and the certificate and will instead ask for 1,000 Groschen, a pretty hefty sum. It is better to increase your charisma rather than pay him 1,000 Groschen, but if you don’t want to reload your save file, you can knock him out at night and steal the items.
Infiltrate The Meeting
After getting the royal waiter’s outfit, equip it and head over to the city council. Make sure to unequip your weapons and then talk to Majordomo in the scribe’s office. Exhaust the dialogues with him and, in the end, choose “I know what I need (wait for the City Council to convene)” to skip the time.
Serve wine to whoever asks for it, and make sure to get it right. There are two types of wine: red and white. If you don’t understand which wine the person has asked for, you can ask them again. After too many failures, Majordomo will come and kick you out of the meeting, resulting in you failing the quest.
You should not serve the wine to Adam of Zarzitz as he causes trouble when he is drunk. If he asks you to bring him wine, simply choose the option you are forbidden from doing so.
If you hear Henry saying to do a better job, you must not make any mistakes, or else you will have to repeat everything. Sometimes, the guests won’t refer to the wine as red or white. Instead, they would say to bring Tokaji, the white wine, or Monastery/ Monastic, the red wine.
After serving the wine for a while, Bailiff Andreas Plumel will ask you to do something for him. He will ask you to bring him a cup that he confiscated from a thief. Head over to the staircase, open the door, and the cup will be right in front of you on the table.
Pick it up and give it to the Bailiff. Shortly after that, Franz Rosenthal will task you with something. He will ask you to get his gloves and task you with counting creatures on a mural. Open the door right next to where the wine is placed and pick the gloves in front of you.
You don’t have to count the winged creatures on the mural. No matter what answer you give him, Franz will agree with you, as he doesn’t know the answer himself. After you have passed some time at the meeting, a cutscene will commence, and you will now play as Godwin.
Talk To Liechtenstein As Godwin
Now that you are playing as Godwin, quickly exhaust all the dialogue with Hans Capon and then go over to talk to Brabant. After that, head over to Samuel and talk to him and exhaust all the dialogue.
Following that, a cutscene will start where Margrave Jobst will reveal his plan against Sigismund. The majority won’t agree with him, so after the cutscene, head over to Liechtenstein and talk to him. He will tell you a counterplan, but for that, support from several big names would be needed.
Liechtenstein will task Godwin with gaining the support of Botscheck of Kunstadt, Haman Alder, and Anna of Waldstein. Firstly, head over to Haman Adler and talk to him. Upon talking to him, Martin Oderin, Godwin’s father, would intervene.
After some dialogues, Christopher, Godwin’s brother, will intervene and challenge you to a duel. It doesn’t matter what you choose here, as the fight will happen, so defeat him in the duel and tell him about Liechtenstein’s plan. He will agree to help.
After that, head over to Botschek of Kunstadt and talk to him. After talking to him for a while, you will learn that he is desperate to marry his daughter in a strong house. Choose Hans Capon as the man, and he will ask for Hanush’s approval before agreeing to help.
Head over to Hanush in the courtyard and tell him everything. He will be pretty happy with Godwin and give his approval. After you have Hanush’s approval, head back to Botschek, and you will have his support. Now, talk to Anna of Waldstein, who can be found sitting on the top floor right next to the staircase by the window.
Talk to her, and she will ask you to swap some documents in Alder’s saddlebag. Head over to the coordinates marked on your map and switch out the papers. Make sure you close the door, and after you have switched the papers, head back to Anna, and you will have her support, too.
If you are caught swapping the papers, the stablehand will ask you to go away, but here, you can succeed with the skill check, and he won’t disturb you.
Now, talk to Liechtenstein, and a cutscene will commence. After that, you will play as Henry again.
Serving King Sigismund
Now that the game has switched back to Henry, Sigismund will ask Henry to stay there for a little bit more to serve him wine. Pour him the right wine every time he asks for it. If you ignore his orders, you will be kicked out, and the quest will fail.
He will ask you to bring wine around three times. The first two times, he will ask for the red wine, and then he will ask for the white one. Sigismund will also drink to your health, so thank him. After a while, he will ask you to drink with him, and after drinking, the quest will commence.
