Some 10 weeks later, the indie studio announced the imminent launch of the TMNT: Tactical Takedown demo, which is now available for download. The trial version of the turn-based strategy game was introduced as part of the 2025 edition of the Steam Next Fest, Valve’s recurring event dedicated to showcasing upcoming titles, mostly from indie studios. As is the case with most Steam Next Fest offerings, the TMNT: Tactical Takedown demo is of the limited-time variety, with players having until March 3 to give it a go.
TMNT: Tactical Takedown Reaffirms Release Window
In a prepared statement, Strange Scaffold characterized this offer as the “first public demo” for its upcoming game. While this wording might imply there will be another one, the time frame for this to happen is getting shorter—not least because the developer has just reaffirmed TMNT Tactical Takedown‘s release window, stating that the game is still targeting a 2025 launch.
The upcoming indie title will feature adolescent renditions of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo. By the time the game’s events take place, the four teenage mutant ninja turtles are approaching adulthood and no longer have the guidance of Splinter, who is dead. Supervillain Shredder is also no more, with the heroes setting their sights on a new leader of the ever-threatening Foot Clan. TMNT: Tactical Takedown promises 20 levels that mutate with each turn, requiring players to keep adapting to their ever-changing environments. The story will be split into campaigns, each of which will be designed to showcase a different member of the famous turtle team.
The upcoming TMNT game has so far only been announced for PC, though that doesn’t necessarily preclude the possibility of one or more console ports happening further down the line. Several previous Strange Scaffold titles were ported to consoles, with this group including Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, Airport for Aliens Run by Dogs, and El Paso, Elsewhere. Although the Texas developer hasn’t shared pricing details yet, none of its PC games retail for more than $19.99, so that may be the ceiling for TMNT: Tactical Takedown.
