Spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 ahead

Summary

  • Sonic 3 leaves Eggman’s fate going forward uncertain, making it unclear what happens to Agent Stone going forward too.
  • Actor Lee Majdoub is happy to reprise his role, however, even without Jim Carrey’s Robotnik.
  • He’d even be up for appearing in spin-offs with characters like Shadow and Tails.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 loosely adapted the events of Sonic Adventure 2, but the general gist is there. Shadow is awakened, he fights Sonic, he realises revenge is bad, and then he “dies”. However, there were quite a few changes made to accommodate the different lore and tone of the films, and one of them is the continued presence of Eggman’s sidekick, Agent Stone.

Sonic 3 seemingly kills off Eggman too, just in case they can’t get Jim Carrey back to reprise the role for a fourth time. This leaves Agent Stone in an awkward position – can he go on without his beloved doctor? Well, according to his actor, Lee Majdoub, he can, and he’s definitely up for reprising the role without Carrey.

“I would love to. I’d be interested in seeing what the story would be, and how we would navigate it,” Majdoub tells us in an interview. “I personally think that [Stone is] capable of a lot more than what we’ve seen so far. And I personally think that Stone probably isn’t going to take the loss of Robotnik that well if Jim’s not coming back, or if the character of Robotnik isn’t coming back.”

However, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t see the potential. “I’ve seen fans talking about wanting a Stone and Shadow spin-off, a Stone and Tails spin-off, and I think those could work for sure.”

Of course, so much of Stone’s character is associated with Robotnik right now. Many fans even ship the two together, something that Majdoub once again endorsed in our interview.

“I love it,” he smiles. “The fans know I’m fully behind them on it. I’ve always told people I’ll support your art, I’ll support anything as long as it’s positive and it doesn’t hurt people.”

Whatever happens next, we’re in for quite the wait. Sonic 4 isn’t set to hit theatres until March 19, 2027.
