Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii Who’s Voiced A Yakuza Character Before

Given how expansive the Like a Dragon series has now become, it makes sense that some voice actors have lent their talents to multiple characters in both the mainline series, and spin-offs such as the Judgment duology.

A lot of these voice actors have appeared as different characters in the series that have previously been involved with Goro Majima. It’s interesting to see them voice different characters that once again deal with Majima in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii.

Matthew Mercer

Goro Majima / Mitsuru Kuroiwa (English Voices)

Matthew Mercer voices Goro Majima in the English dub of the game. He has been playing the English version of the character since 2020, having voiced Majima in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

However, Mercer’s first role in the series was actually as the antagonist of 2018’s Judgment. In that game, he voiced the English version of the game’s antagonist, Mitsuru Kuroiwa.

Hidenari Ugaki

Goro Majima / Shishido Baiken / Soji Okita (Japanese Voices)

The Japanese voice of Goro Majima belongs to Hidenari Ugaki, who has voiced the character since his original inception in 2005’s Yakuza. With his return in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, he became the longest ongoing voice actor in the Like A Dragon series.

In the past, Ugaki has voiced two different characters in the Kyoto-era spinoffs. He played Shishido Baiken in 2008’s Yakuza Kenzan, and Soji Okita in 2014’s Yakuza Ishin.

First Summer Uika

Noah Rich / Akame (Japanese Voices)

First Summer Uika voices Noah Rich in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii’s original Japanese dub. Noah is a teenage boy who helps Majima on his adventure and introduces him to multiple areas of Hawaii. Both Noah and his family play a big role in Pirate Yakuza’s narrative.

Previously, she has also provided both the voice and likeness of a completely different character, Akame, in Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. Akame also played a big role in that game, being an information broker and helping out Kiryu.

Brent Mukai

Masaru Fujita / Naoto Tagashira (English Voices)

Brent Mukai voices the English version of Masaru Fujita in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii. Fujita is the chef and bodyguard of your ship, The Goromuru, and becomes your ally.

Mukai has previously voiced the English version of Naoto Tagashira in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. In that game, Tagashira was featured in the Life Links section of Kiryu’s chapters, making a return from Yakuza 6: The Song of Life as part of the Hirose family.

Ayumi Tanida

Rodriguez / Kanji Koshimizu / Mikisaburo Suzuki (Japanese Voices)

Ayumi Tanida provides both the voice and likeness for the character Rodriguez in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii. Rodriguez is a member of Palekana who Majima clashes with.

Tanida has also previously played two characters in the series. He voiced Kanji Koshimizu in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, a captain of the Yomei Alliance. His next role was as Mikisaburo Suzuki in 2023’s Like a Dragon: Ishin remaster.

Shinsuke Daitoh

Mortimer / Baba (Japanese Voices)

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii’s Mortimer is played by Shinsuke Daitoh in the Japanese dub. Mortimer is the current champion of Madlantis.

Daitoh most famously played Baba in Yakuza 5, a complex character that was prominently featured in Saejima’s chapters. Besides Yakuza 5, he also provided the voice and likeness for Heisuke Todo in the original Yakuza: Ishin.

Kazuhiro Nakaya

Goro / Ichiban Kasuga / Akira Nishikiyama (Japanese Voices)

Kazuhiro Nakaya voices the little tiger Goro in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, who Noah comes across in Rich Island and makes a pet out of.

Nakaya was also the Japanese voice of Akira Nishikiyama in Yakuza 0, as well as both the original Yakuza (2005) and its remake, Yakuza: Kiwami (2016). He also played Izo Okada in both 2014’s Yakuza: Ishin and its 2023 remaster.

On top of these, he’s now most well-known as the Japanese voice of Ichiban Kasuga in the last two turn-based entries in the mainline series.

Romi Park

Queen Michele / Mirei Park (Japanese Voices)

Romi Park plays Queen Michele, one of the leaders of Madlantis. She created the pirate’s coliseum, where Majima can participate in various activities, including naval battles.

Park also voiced the character of Mirei Park in Yakuza 5, who was revealed to be previously married to Majima. Mirei Park was a mentor to Haruka, and her death was a big plot point in Haruka’s chapters.

Miou Tanaka

Raymond Law / Akinobu Uematsu / Kyohei Hamura / Yosuke Tendo (Japanese Voices)

Miou Tanaka voices Raymond Law in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii as part of its Japanese dub. Raymond is known as the Pirate King in the game and rules over Madlantis, along with Queen Michele.

Tanaka previously played three different antagonists in the series. He voiced Akinobu Uematsu in 2017’s Yakuza Kiwami 2, who was featured in the Majima Saga DLC, Kyohei Hamura in 2018’s Judgment spin-off, and Yosuke Tendo in 2020’s Yakuza: Like A Dragon.

Rikiya Koyama

Taiga Saejima / Shinpachi Nagakura (Japanese Voices)

Rikiya Koyama voices Taiga Saejima in the Like a Dragon series and makes his return in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii. Saejima is Majima’s sworn brother and comes to Hawaii looking for him.

Koyama has also voiced Shinpachi Nagakura in both the 2014 Yakuza: Ishin and its 2023 remaster. Nagakura was the captain of the second troop of the Shinsengumi group of swordsmen in the game.
