Once Human developer Starry Studio has finally revealed the release date for permanent servers; something that the community has been asking about for quite some time. You’ve not got long to wait either, as starting March 2025 every single server in the game (apart from private ones) will be converted into an indefinite one, with the new feature being expanded later in the year as well. So if you’ve been itching to stick to a specific server, there’s a lot you need to know.
Typically, a Once Human server shuts down at the end of a season. You’ll sign up for a scenario, complete the seasonal experience, and then the server that takes place in will eventually close. From here you’ll need to sign up for a new Once Human scenario or return to Eternaland – a separate server where you’re always free to build and do many other activities – but that won’t be the case for much longer.
When all the survival game’s servers become permanent in March, you won’t lose any data. Starry Studio explains that all active characters, their level, materials, deviations in territories, and social relationships will remain intact. After a brief conversion process (of about two hours), you can jump back into the server like nothing’s changed.
When the permanent server feature launches, you’ll need to log in approximately every 30 days to stay on it. Starry Studio explains that this is to “prevent inactive characters from tying up server resources,” and make sure any given server doesn’t feel too empty. If that sounds too short don’t worry, because as of Q2 this year, the inactive period will be upped to around 180 days, making it easier for returning players to join permanent servers.
Once Human’s Visional Wheel mechanic will also be impacted by permanent servers, giving you even more options. Typically, the Visional Wheel is a system that introduces unique rules to Once Human that can impact survival, combat, and game modes. With the introduction of permanent servers, however, scenarios can come either with or without the system. Starry Studio explains that if your scenario does come with a Visional Wheel, it’ll be expanded over time. Starry says scenarios tagged with the Blood Moon will get Visional Wheel features, while those without the tag won’t.
Starry Studio confirms that Once Human permanent servers are coming to the game on Thursday March 13, with the feature being upgraded in Q2 2025.
