It’s been a long time coming, but we now know when Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be here. Having been revealed during the summer of 2023, with a few updates along the way, many expected the Snake Eater remake to be released in 2024. Not only did that not happen, but 2024 came and went without the release date for the remake even being revealed, let alone the game itself.
Then, out of nowhere, PlayStation dropped a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta with its release date at the end – August 28, 2025. Turns out it jumped the gun a little as that trailer was quickly scrubbed from existence and then reappeared a week later during February’s State Of Play. The release date was correct, and pre-orders are now open. That means you can decide which edition of the Snake Eater remake you’re going to go for and secure it now. We’ve got everything you need to know before you do it, including the links you’ll need to place your pre-order.

There are four editions of Delta: Snake Eater to choose from, and how Konami has decided to price them is arguably a little controversial. The key difference between the Standard and Tactical Editions is that the former is digital and the latter is the name that’s been given to the physical release. Both versions cost $70 each, but only the physical version comes with the Sneaking DLC. It’s unclear why that’s not a part of the digital Standard Edition, and even less clear why that version costs the same when it includes less content.
The Digital Deluxe Edition is, as the label implies, digital-only and that does come with the DLC. It will also get you access to the game 48 hours early, starting from August 26 provided that the August 28 release date doesn’t get pushed. There’s also a much more expensive Collector’s Edition which comes with some cool physical goodies, but no early access. All versions of the game will include Snake’s white tuxedo skin if you place your order through the links below before release day.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater brings MGS3 to modern systems, rebuilt from the ground up in a new engine. A prequel set during the Cold War, you play as Naked Snake, an operative tasked with infiltrating the Soviet Reunion and rescuing a weapons engineer.

One of the most exciting parts of Metal Gear Solid Delta’s release date trailer will have been confirmation that the original game’s Ape Escape mode will be making a return. However, there’s a catch. Since Ape Escape is a PlayStation-owned IP, the Ape Escape apes will not be included in the Xbox version of the remake. They will be replaced by Bomberman for Xbox players, so bear that in mind if you have a decision to make regarding which platform you play on.
There’s also naturally no mention of a Nintendo Switch release for the Snake Eater remake as the console wouldn’t be able to handle its graphical demands. However, there’s a very real chance it eventually comes to the Switch 2. Since Nintendo hasn’t revealed much about its next console yet, no developers have been able to reveal if their games will be coming to it. It feels like both Nintendo and Konami would want this game to be on the Switch 2 is possible, though.
FAQ
What Time Will Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Be Released?
Konami was very coy about giving us a release date, so as you might have already guessed, there has been no word on exactly what time the game will unlock on August 28, 2025, if you have pre-ordered one of the digital versions.
Has Metal Gear Solid Ended?
There hasn’t been a new Metal Gear Solid game for ten years, and with Hideo Kojima no longer at Konami, it seems unlikely we will be getting a Metal Gear 6. However, if the Snake Eater remake does well, we might see other older installments get the same treatment.
How Long Does It Take To Beat All Of The Metal Gear Solid Games?
That’s a loaded question as there are different ways to interpret what incorporates every Metal Gear game. If you want to complete every single one, it would take you more than 70 days to do so, and that’s not including the Delta remake.
