  • Current tanks struggle to fulfill their role as the meta shifts towards more flying characters.
  • Fans hope leaks about potential ranged tank characters like The Hood will address the issue.

Marvel Rivals players are frustrated with the lack of ranged options among the current roster of Vanguards and have asked NetEase Games to consider giving tanks more options in the future. The second half of Season 1: Eternal Night Falls is well underway and, while many fans are enjoying the new content they’ve just received in Marvel Rivals, others are already looking toward Season 2.

The recent 1.5 Marvel Rivals update added The Thing and Human Torch to the game’s ever-expanding roster, bringing the total number of playable characters to 37. While both heroes appear to have been well received, there appears to be a clear favorite. A large portion of the community has stated that nearly all of their matches have included gamers playing Human Torch on both sides, which has caused some tension among fans. As flying heroes become more prevalent, tank players are having a harder time fulfilling their role on the ground.

Former Marvel Rivals Director Was Responsible For a Unique Feature

A former Marvel Rivals director claims that he is responsible for creating one of the popular hero shooter’s most unique features.

In a recent post on Reddit, DirectorMassive7578 shared their dissatisfaction with the lack of ranged options among the current roster of Vanguards in Marvel Rivals. With the recent release of Human Torch, along with buffs made to Storm and Iron Man, a lot of teams have begun to lean on flying Duelists to provide DPS. This has led to some frustration among Vanguard players, as most of the current playable characters focus on melee or mid-range attacks. As of writing, Peni Parker is the only tank who can reliably provide ranged support, though most of her ability kit involves putting down mines on the ground.

Marvel Rivals Players Want a More Ranged Vanguards

Some players said that Marvel Rivals‘ Duelists are meant to combat flying enemies, suggesting that Vanguards shouldn’t need to worry about countering characters like Storm or Human Torch. One player said they’ve managed to fend off flying Duelists with Doctor Strange, as the sorcerer can float up into the air for limited amounts of time. Another gamer stated that they’d managed to take out Human Torch rather quickly as Groot, but the opposing flying hero had made the mistake of flying low enough to be hit.

Grasping for some kind of solution, several fans started to analyze leaks in the hopes that they would discover characters with the potential to become ranged tanks in the future. Dataminers did recently claim that The Hood could be coming to Marvel Rivals as a Vanguard. Since he’s known for wielding two pistols, it’s possible he could offer a partial solution to the growing issue. Despite a few complaints, many fans are still enthusiastic about the future of the popular hero shooter.
