In the mountain of copycats released since From Software’s titanic Dark Souls series, Lies of P is a cut above. It impressed even those bewildered by its peculiar premise: a tragic, steampunk run at the classic children’s story Pinocchio. Impressively made and shockingly deep, Lies of P struck a place of its own in a crowded field. Now, in just a few months, we’ll be getting more of it, in a snowy prequel DLC called Overture.
Lies of P Overture was already announced, but a new trailer, which debuted during the ID@Xbox livestream, offers more footage of the upcoming DLC prequel. The trailer strikes a mournful, melancholy tone. A voiceover reminisces over lost time as protagonist P wanders a rural snowscape, finding strange monuments made of wax.
He also encounters a mysterious masked swordswoman and battles foes alongside her. The trailer’s end shows the two characters standing before a massive mansion as a snowstorm rages.
It’s exciting to know that one of the best soulslike games of recent memory will be getting a substantial expansion. The DLC will lead up to the Puppet Frenzy, the robotic revolution that kicked off the original game. However, Overture also takes up its own path. The rural, winter setting is a bright contrast to the dark urban fantasy of the original game. It’s still unclear what role this swordswoman has, in the plot or during the game itself, but the footage does suggest she will fight alongside P and play a crucial role.
The new Lies of P Overture DLC trailer did not reveal a specific release date, but did reaffirm its release window: Summer 2025.
