As the name suggests, Hello Kitty Island Adventure takes place on an island! As such, you’ll be spending a fair amount of time in the water. At the start of the game, you won’t be able to swim or dive; both of these will unlock. While the ability to swim unlocks quickly, you may be wondering how the heck to begin diving.

Updated February 24, 2025 by Jacqueline Zalace: Snorkeling is essential if you want to explore the Rainbow Reef in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. We’ve updated this guide with a bit more information on the snorkel, as well as some tips to help you snorkel as efficiently as possible.

How To Start The Deep Diving Quest

The snorkel is unlocked through the quest Deep Diving. To start Deep Diving, you’ll first need to reach friendship level six with Kuromi. If you don’t have a high friendship with her at this point, be sure to give her three gifts each day. Kuromi will gladly accept pumpkins, which are found right near her. Additionally, Jack-O-Lanterns are a two-heart gift for her.

After reaching the right friendship level, speak with Kuromi. She’ll ask you to get her lost locket and let you borrow her snorkel. The process of getting the locket is fairly easy, but afterward, Kuromi will take it back.

At this point, she’ll give you the Snorkel Plan that you will need to craft yourself.

How To Craft The Snorkel

To craft the snorkel, you’ll need the following items.

When you get them all, head to the crafting table near Chococat and make a snorkel! After, you’ll be able to use it to go fully underwater.

How To Get Rubber

Rubber is pretty easy to find. The material can be found on the first island, typically lying around trees. Rubber looks like little purple balls, so if you see one, be sure to pick it up.

How To Get Sparks

Sparks are a bit harder to get than the other required materials. To game one, you’ll need to reach friendship level four with Pochacco. Once you’ve done this, you can start the quest called A Zipline Adventure.

By completing this quest, you’ll get the recipe for Sparks, which require three Light Stones to make. Thankfully, this is an item that Kuromi gives you after you give her a gift, so you’ll definitely have enough to make some Sparks.

How To Get Iron Ingots

Iron can be found on Mount Hothead. Here, the material is found on the ground, looking like dark-red clumps with grey flecks on it. If you need even more Iron, you can also participate in a minigame in Gemstone Town that gives Iron as a potential reward.

How To Use The Snorkel

To use the snorkel, simply start swimming. On the right-hand side of the screen, you should see the snorkel icon along with some arrows pointing up and down. By pressing down, you’ll get lower into the water.

After you get the snorkel, you’ll be able to visit Hangyodon, who lives underwater. The actual building he is in doesn’t have water in it, so once you’ve entered, you no longer have to worry about diving or stamina. There is also a fast-travel mailbox right outside this area, so be sure to activate it!

Snorkeling And Stamina

Hello Kitty Island Adventure How To Increase Your Stamina-1

The snorkel lets you descend into the water, but the amount of time you can remain under depends on your current stamina. With a lot of stamina, you can descend quite far down and explore the sea floor. If you happen to run out of stamina, the UI will disappear until your character has finished swimming back up to the surface.

To increase your time underwater, we highly recommend working to increase your stamina. This is done by turning Stamina Apple Slices into full apples. If you want to go a bit faster underwater on limited stamina, you can also make the Speedy Swimming Potion, which is made with some tofu.

How The Mermaid Outfit Affects Snorkeling

Another thing that will affect your snorkel experience is the Mermaid Outfit. Through the quest called Comic Relief, you can obtain all three pieces of the Mermaid Outfit, which makes snorkeling underwater way easier.

When all three pieces of the suit are equipped, you will swim way faster, as well as use less stamina. The difference is quite impressive, so getting the Mermaid Outfit early is a good idea. Eventually, you’ll also be able to complete the quest Mermaidified Fashion, which makes you automatically turn into a mermaid when entering the water (you won’t need to change).
