Turns out, not all dirt is created equal, and where you plant makes a big difference. Water, planters, and even the icy chill of Longvinter’s climate all play a role in how fast (or if) your crops grow at all. Want to speed things up and get the most out of your farm? How To Farm
To start farming, you need seeds, which can be purchased from the farmer’s vending machine at Sgt. Lakes Outpost. Alternatively, you can craft seeds by combining four or more of the same plant at a Workbench. Once you have seeds, open your inventory, select a seed, and choose where to plant it — on the ground, in a Planter, or inside a Greenhouse.
The environment plays a crucial role in crop growth. Crops planted in the open ground grow the slowest but benefit from being near water. Planters, also purchasable from the farmer’s vending machine at Sgt. Lakes Outpost, offer a better alternative by boosting growth speed, while sprinklers further enhance it.
Farming in cold climates requires either a Planter or a greenhouse, as seeds will not grow otherwise.
Once a crop reaches full maturity, it will emit a sparkle effect. Simply right-click to harvest it and collect any seeds it may produce. Crops grow relatively quickly, only taking a few minutes to reach full fruition.
For a fully automated farming experience, Greenhouses are the best option. Available to purchase from vendors across the map, greenhouses handle both planting and harvesting, ensuring you have a continuous crop supply.
