Former Nintendo employees are commenting on the recent Nintendo Switch 2 price leaks. Gamers have been waiting with bated breath for any new information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console, which was finally revealed earlier this year after many leaks and rumors. Nintendo is planning to hold a special Nintendo Direct livestream on April 2, which will shed more light on the system, its launch lineup, and possibly reveal its release date and retail price.

Leaks and rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2’s price started almost immediately after the console was shown off last month, with some sources claiming that the new system will cost somewhere in the range of $449.99 for the base console and $499.99 for a special bundle. More recently, analyst Joost van Dreunen predicted that the base Switch 2 will be priced at $399, about a hundred dollars more than the original Switch cost when it first launched in 2017.

Early Nintendo Switch 2 Units Are Reportedly Being Sold on the Black Market

Recent reports suggest early Nintendo Switch 2 units are sold on the Chinese black market, though their price may deter fans.

A Nintendo employee was recently asked about these Nintendo Switch 2 price rumors on the latest episode of Kit & Krysta Podcast, as reported by Nintendo Life. This employee, named Sean, previously worked in the sales department at Nintendo, and he stated that retailers currently know “nothing” about the Nintendo Switch 2 at this point. “[…] Certainly not price, almost certainly not any kind of launch date other than maybe a quarter,” he answered, adding that he always finds these sorts of retailer leaks amusing since the stores are “the last people that are gonna know” what the console’s price is.

As noted before, fans probably won’t know for sure what the Nintendo Switch 2’s price is until the upcoming Nintendo Direct livestream on April 2, which seems like the most likely place for the Big N to give out this sort of information. Aside from its overall design and a few new features, there is still very little known about the Nintendo Switch 2, with the only first-party game revealed for the system so far being a new Mario Kart.

There are plenty of rumors about other exclusives being developed for the Nintendo Switch 2, but just like the claims about its price and release date, nothing has been officially confirmed. This might change in April, but for now even Nintendo’s former employees are advising curious gamers to stay skeptical of any price leaks coming from retailers, as they are reportedly the last people to get suggested price information on new hardware like the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
