Summary
- There are few things better than a good gaming Collector’s Edition, such as the PS5 Pro 20th Anniversary bundle.
- However, what about a Collector’s Edition so expensive that no one could even afford it in the first place?
- That’s exactly what the Dying Light “My Apocalypse” edition was, though it may or may not have been real at all.
Every now and again, a Collector’s Edition so unique arrives that gamers flock in droves to purchase it. Such was the case with Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, when its Collector’s Edition immediately sold out before entering the second-hand market. The same can be said of Sony’s PS5 Pro Anniversary Edition, which had bundles being scalped for over $10,000, as well as people threatening to steal the console.
On the other hand, there are Collector’s Editions that nobody wants to buy. According to the GameStop subreddit, that list includes the Rage 2 Collector’s Edition, Marvel’s Avengers CE and the one for Gotham Knights.
Then, there are the Collector’s Editions, which seemingly no one can even afford to buy in the first place. That’s exactly the situation that the Dying Light “My Apocalypse” edition found itself in.
For a modest $386,000, you could get the following:
- A life-sized Volatile statue
- Your face in the game
- A custom Zombie-proof shelter built by Tiger Log Cabins
- Four copies of the game
- A round-trip flight to visit Techland
- Custom night-vision goggles and adult diapers
- Real-life parkour lessons
- Razer headsets
As it turns out, no one actually coughed up the money for all of that. It also may or may not have even existed in the first place.

We Gotta Stop With Collectors Editions That Don’t Actually Include The Game
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is offering two expensive bundles that look like collector’s editions, but don’t actually include the game.
It Was Worth A Try, Though
In an interview with Insider Gaming, Techland’s PR manager, Paulina Dziedziak, revealed that the expensive bundle actually never sold. Rather, it was all a genius marketing ploy.
“It was a PR stunt and got a lot of media attention for its wild and over-the-top nature, it was designed to generate buzz around the game’s release,” an email read. “It did a great job of getting the game noticed, though! But nobody purchased it – thankfully, I guess!”
Secretly, we were hoping that someone actually bought the bundle, but refused to reveal themselves. Alas, that is not the case. Still, it’s pretty funny to imagine that there is someone out there that is extremely skilled at parkour and has a Zombie-proof shelter ready for the apocalypse, along with a giant supply of diapers of all things.
