Ever since its introduction, Mega Knight has been a common sight in Clash Royale‘s mid-ladder decks. Often considered overpowered because of its high health pool and damage, this card can easily dominate the arena if your opponent doesn’t have the right counters for it.
But with the right counters, handling a Mega Knight isn’t too difficult. It’s a great card and fits in nicely with a decent number of decks. But like any other card in Clash Royale, the key to playing against it is to know what to do when it’s walking down a lane. In this guide, we’ll show you the best counters for the Mega Knight and the best decks for it.

Clash Royale: Best Decks with Mini Pekka (& How to Counter It)
Mini Pekka is a Rare card that hits like a truck. Here’s all you need to know about the troop along with its best decks & counters in Clash Royale.
Mega Knight Card Overview Clash Royale
Mega Knight is one of those cards that’s great on both offense and defense. But in the top ladder, it’s extremely situational and only fits in with a couple of decks. The card costs 7 elixirs to deploy, and its Legendary rarity means that free-to-play players will have a hard time maxing it out.
Similar to Ice or Electro Wizard, Mega Knight deals spawn damage when you deploy it. It can also jump to enemy units at a certain distance, splashing the area as it lands. However, if you place a troop close to the Mega Knight, it will walk up to it instead of jumping. The troop also deals splash damage, which makes it extremely strong against swarm defense.
Mega Knight can’t target air troops.
Mega Knight also has an Evolution variant that gives his attacks a knockback effect. After knocking back a troop, if there are no other enemy units nearby, Mega Knight can jump on the target. Its knockback always pushes the unit towards the crown tower in the lane. Mega Knight can also jump on the crown tower if it gets within range.
How to Counter Mega Knight in Clash Royale
The Mega Knight is an extremely intimidating card, especially when it’s over-leveled. However, if your cards and King Tower are on the same level, dealing with it isn’t too difficult. It has a decent health pool and can hit like a truck. But like most hard-hitting troops in Clash Royale, it’s easy to kite it and take it down with the right counters.
That being said, the biggest counter to Mega Knight is a simple King Tower activation. And it’ll only cost you two elixirs if you do it perfectly. What you want to do is let the Mega Knight cross the bridge and lock on to your Tower. As it gets ready to jump, place Skeletons in the middle of the arena four tiles above the King Tower.
As soon as the Mega Knight jumps on the Skeletons, place an Ice Spirit or any other Spirits right above the King Tower. If you do it perfectly, the Mega Knight will walk up to the King Tower afterwards, activating it and making it much easier for you to defend future pushes.
Cycle decks often use both Skeletons and Ice Spirit allowing for easy King Tower activation against Mega Knight.
Other than that, Mega Knight is pretty weak against anti-tank troops and buildings. Inferno Dragon and Inferno Tower are both solid counters to the card. Pekka is the biggest counter to both the normal and evolved versions of Mega Knight. If you don’t have these cards, use a mini-tank like Knight or Valkyrie in front of the Mega Knight and place DPS support like Goblins, Spear Goblins or Skeletons behind it to take it out.
Unlike Bandit or Golden Knight, Mega Knight can still take damage during his jump.

Here’s another deck that uses the same evolution combo as the last one. But this deck plays more like a Pekka Bridge Spam, where you’ll be spamming your troops to keep the opponent on the defensive. On the plus side, the deck also has the Lightning to help get direct tower damage if you’re having trouble breaking through.

The classic Mega Knight Bridge Spam deck using the Miner and Wall Breakers is still a strong choice in the current meta. This deck can easily take you to Ultimate Champion in Clash Royale if you play your cards right. You can swap out the Prince with Royale Ghost if you want to make the deck cheaper.
