Sworn sees players rush into the magical land of Avalon to defeat the corrupt King Arthur and his knights. The game is a co-op roguelike but one thing that sets it apart from others in the genre is its multiple playable characters. You start the game with only one unlocked playable character, Vigilante.
The other three characters can be unlocked by fulfilling the requirements and interacting with the character statues at Carmarthen Tower. Each unlocked character starts off with a set number of weapons and attacks, and you can unlock the rest as you progress. Each character has specific strengths and weaknesses that make them best for different gameplay styles.

Vigilante
Vigilante Uses Both Melee And Ranged Attacks
Vigilante is available for you to use as soon as you begin the game. His short sword and magical ability, Blade Rush, are also ready for instant use. You must collect Fairy Embers and clear chambers to unlock the other weapons and spells. Vigilante is blazing fast and agile but lacks in the defense department and can easily fall if enemies manage to land heavy blows. However, the game provides ranged attacks, so you can take down enemies from a distance and avoid the risk of your health getting too low.
That’s not to say that Vigilante’s melee attacks are lacking, as he is very quick and hits enemies with a three-strike combination in quick succession if you use his light attack. His heavy attack has Vigilante spinning and damaging any enemy within the attack’s radius. Vigilante’s final weapon is the Chakrams, which function like boomerangs. You can throw them, and they’ll hit enemies and return, or you can use a heavy attack to spin the weapon around you, damaging everyone caught in the radius.

Monk
Monk Uses A Mace And A Magical Staff
- Unlocked by clearing 15 chambers as Vigilante + 20x Fairy Embers
Monk is a versatile character and all her weapons have different attacks that you can use. Her first weapon is the mace, which is a slow weapon similar to Rook’s, which deals massive damage. Her heavy attack also inflicts some nice lightning damage, but her most interesting weapon is the Tome, which shoots out pages in a cone-shaped radius. You can hold the light attack button to straighten the line of sight and aim at one enemy to deal greater damage to the individual. The weapon’s heavy attack brings down a page which explodes, causing damage to all enemies caught in the radius.
Monk’s first spell, Storm Call, is quite powerful and shoots lighting, striking enemies from a distance to deal continuous shock damage. However, her most powerful spell is her last spell, Arcane Shield. If you use this, you will shield all allies from the next attack. That isn’t all, since the shield also explodes when it breaks, damaging nearby enemies and giving you some much-needed breathing space. All of Monk’s attacks use some sort of energy to hit and damage enemies. This may make her a good character if you want some variety from the other characters.

Rook
Rook Deals Heavy Damage
- Unlocked by clearing 15 chambers as Monk + 30x Fairy Embers
Rook is the third character you can unlock in Sworn and his focus is on dealing heavy damage while having good defense. He uses bigger weapons than the other characters and is also slower in comparison, but has the most health to compensate for his slowness.
His first weapon is the Great Hammer and while he swings the weapon slowly, it deals significant damage to enemies. Rook’s heavy attack is a spin, similar to other characters. What makes this particular weapon so great is how it can stun enemies, letting you get some nice hits or escape from a bad situation. The best thing about Rook’s stunning potential is it also applies to most bosses, letting you interrupt otherwise deadly attacks.

His last unlockable weapons are the Gauntlets, which allow his fists to unleash his fury. The weapon’s light attacks strike enemies with powerful and quick blows, while its heavy attack is the Haymaker, which destroys enemies with its power. Rook’s first spell is Bull Rush, which you can use to charge into enemies and deal damage to all that are hit. The next unlockable spell, Counter, is a defensive spell that turns enemies’ attacks on them.

Spectre
Spectre Is An Assassin Who Uses Magic Attacks
- Unlocked by clearing 15 chambers as Rook + 40x Fairy Embers
Spectre is the last character you can unlock in Sworn, and he may be the most dangerous because of the sheer damage he can deal to enemies. His first weapon is the Armillary Sphere, which fires bolts from a distance. The weapon’s heavy attack discharges an orb that explodes and damages all enemies within its impact radius. Spectre’s final weapons are the Claws which align well with his speed and are used at close range. You can land four attacks in succession using his light attack or one powerful strike with both claws if you use his heavy attack.
Spectre’s first spell, Mystic Beam, shoots out a beam with limited movement that lasts for a few seconds, dealing damage to enemies hit by it. He has more spells that allow him to turn into a fireball or summon familiars to attack enemies, but his most useful spell may be Blind. If you use Blind, you can teleport to a different location and cause an explosion when you reappear. Specter is the most adaptable character that can be used with different gameplay styles.
