Deliverance 2 Guards Can Cheekily Reference The Game's Name

Summary

  • Despite its realistic visage, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has a notable sense of humour.
  • This can be found throughout the game with easter eggs, references, and more.
  • One of the best examples of this is a fourth-wall breaking guard that pokes fun at the game’s name.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s guards have a chance of completely shattering the fourth wall when talking to Henry by nodding towards the game’s name.

One of the biggest things that sets Kingdom Come: Deliverance apart from other realistic medieval games is its great sense of humour. While the story takes itself seriously and there are some dark moments, there’s a surprising amount of comedy to be found in Henry’s interactions with the world.

There’s nothing as funny as being confidently wrong.

This is even more true of the sequel, which dials up the laughs considerably, both in terms of the characters and all the little easter eggs and references the developers hid around the world. We’ve already shared some of these, such as Luffy’s hat from One Piece, but you haven’t seen anything until you’ve messed around with the guards.

“I’ll Kick Your Arse To Kingdom Come… Deliverance!”

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s NPCs are a great source of a lot of the game’s humour, which includes the surprisingly silly guards. Henry can interact with them in a number of ways, including trying to convince them to either let him off his crimes or into a specific area. One example of this was shown off by YouTuber Stone Edge Gaming.

In the video, Henry is shown chatting to the guard and trying to convince him to let him wander around the area in exchange for some groschen. While the guard might have gone for that, Stone Edge Gaming’s Henry doesn’t actually have any money, causing him to be accused of trying to yank the guard’s “pizzle”.

The interaction is already a great show of Deliverance 2’s humour and range of options, but it gets even better as the guard threatens Henry, saying that he’ll “kick your arse to kingdom come”. The voice actor then snuck in a cheeky nod to the game’s title by adding a perfectly acted “Deliverance!” right onto the end.

Kingdom Come fans quickly pointed out that the game’s subtitles don’t include the obvious easter egg, which some think is a sign the voice actor ad-libbed the moment and it was left in. While an ad-lib does seem to be the case (I mean, who wouldn’t say it?), it’s likely Warhorse just found the scene funnier with the reference there and decided to keep it in.
