Classic BioWare RPG Neverwinter Nights has received a major new piece of DLC 23 years after its original release. The new Neverwinter Nights expansion continues the story of the Hero of Neverwinter, titled Doom of Icewind Dale.
Neverwinter Nights was initially released in 2002, with several expansions coming in the years that followed. It was eventually followed up by a sequel, Neverwinter Nights 2, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment rather than BioWare. Both games received positive reviews, although it was the original that was viewed more favorably in general. Today, both stand as some of the best Dungeons and Dragons video games ever created.

Neverwinter Nights Gets New DLC After 23 Years
Gamers wanting to try out Neverwinter Nights: Doom of Icewind Dale will have to pay up. At full price, the DLC will cost $9.99, but it currently has a 10% Steam launch discount until February 28. Developed by Neverwinter Nights community creator Luke “Alazander” Scull, it really is a love letter to this classic Dungeons and Dragons experience. Scull has even more in the works, too, with Doom of Icewind Dale planned to be the first part of a new campaign titled The Blades of Netheril, although there’s no timeline for the completion of this at the moment.
With the release of this new DLC, it’s a good time to be a fan of Dungeons and Dragons video games. The release of Baldur’s Gate 3 was obviously huge, while it was also recently rumored that an Enhanced Edition of 2006’s Neverwinter Nights 2 is in development. Gamers will have to wait and see if this comes to fruition, as it’s just a rumor right now. Considering how much Baldur’s Gate 3 has driven interest in D&D, it wouldn’t be a massive surprise.
