Summary
- Avowed has a third-person mode, but fans aren’t loving it.
- There’s already a mod that aims to improve it, making third-person work better in combat.
- Fans are also sharing how you can change the game settings to make third-person more tolerable.
Avowed shares a few similarities with other action RPGs, and one of them is that you’re much, much better off playing it in first-person. While Obsidian does let you switch to third-person, it makes combat an absolute faff, so it’s not really worth the bonus of being able to stare at the character you spent all that time making.
Now, fans might have a fix for this problem. By just changing the camera distance, third-person mode can be a whole lot better in combat, helping you to focus on multiple enemies at once. And if you’re struggling to find the right camera settings yourself, there’s already a mod for that, aiming to improve the third-person experience.
Avowed Fans Might Have Fixed Third-Person Gameplay
This mod brings you closer to the action
This mod from Nexus user Caites keeps the camera much closer in combat, making it so you can only see the upper half of your character. As you can see in the screenshots, this means you’re not pulled away from the enemies as you are in the vanilla third-person, and can get a better look at what they’re doing.
The mod has already been installed more than 1,000 times since it was shared a couple of days ago. It comes with some different versions which pull the camera back slightly more, while still keeping you close to the action.
If you can’t mod because you’re on console, then fret not, because fans have found a fix there too. By going into the settings, you can set the proximity closer for a similar effect. Reddit user initial-bid-4320 set it to 60, and it looks much cleaner than the default.
Of course, it’s safe to assume that most people will be sticking with first-person since that’s what got the most attention in promotional material. Avowed is hardly alone in this, with third-person in games like Skyrim and even Obsidian’s own Fallout: New Vegas renowned for being the much less popular ways to play.
