The Envoy will be faced with a difficult decision during the Shadows of the Past main quest in Avowed. You must choose between allowing Inquisitor Lodwyn to destroy the Naku Kubel ruins, thus killing the trapped Dreamthralls, or letting the archmage Ryngrim to take the essence of hundreds of people to sever the Adra, ending the Dreamscourge in Shatterscarp.
There are more severe consequences players should keep in mind if they decide on any of the two choices in Avowed. Although the outcome will be known almost instantly the moment you return to Thirdborn, the more important outcome will appear at the end. At the endgame, during the Siege of Paradis main quest, players will be faced with three impossible choices, and whatever choice they make, Shatterscarp will also suffer the consequences.

Consequences |

Destroy Ruins + Allow Aedyr to Colonize the Living Lands |
The older Thirdborners are used to living under the rules of another, while the younger ones are still holding on to their older and free land. Thirdborners still resent Ryngrim for killing most of their people while struggling under the oppression of Aedyr. Even though Thirdborn can still work in trades, it is hinted that some are planning a rebellion. |
Destroy Ruins + Attempt Grefram |
The Shatterscarp people don’t trust Aedyr, even after being promised autonomy. The grefram’s port brings all kinds of exotic materials, including high-quality wine that dulls the ache of the Ryngrim’s attack. |
Destroy Ruins + Have the Living Lands Become a Free Land |
The Shatterscarp people are happy with their independence but still suffering from Ryngrim’s attack. There is little to no trade in Shatterscarp, so there is no source of income. Some Thirdborners leave the settlement while others stay and work together to figure out a way to fight hunger. |
