Exodus, the long-anticipated game helmed by BioWare alumnus James Ohlen, will be released at some point in 2026. Developed by Archetype Entertainment, a part of Hasbro-owned publisher Wizards of the Coast, Exodus is a sci-fi action RPG for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Exodus is the in-development debut game from US-based Archetype Entertainment, which first opened its doors in 2019. The project is led by Ohlen, Archetype’s studio head, whose vast experience stretches from the 1998 fantasy game Baldur’s Gate to the 2019 sci-fi title Anthem. Apart from him, the team also consists of other BioWare veterans, such as Mass Effect lead writer Drew Karpyshyn. At The Game Awards 2023, Exodus aired its first trailer, confirming the involvement of popular Hollywood actor, Matthew McConaughey, in the project. After a few similar updates shared thus far, the release window for the game has finally been locked down.

Exodus Has Serious Destiny and Anthem Vibes
Archetype Entertainment’s Exodus brings some big new ideas to the table, though Destiny and Anthem fans may get a familiar feeling from the trailer.
During Hasbro’s earnings call, CEO Chris Cocks announced that Exodus is scheduled to hit the shelves in 2026, ending a long period of speculation. He shared his excitement about Archetype Entertainment’s debut release and suggested how the success-filled career of project lead, Ohlen, bodes well for the forthcoming game’s chances. Furthermore, the Hasbro chief stated that he expects Exodus to be one of the factors driving growth for Hasbro throughout the next few years.
Exodus Release Window Revealed by Hasbro
Similar to the Mass Effect games that Ohlen worked on in the past, Exodus is a planet-hopping third-person shooter adventure. As shown in the trailers so far, it is a story-driven game with a branching narrative and features both action and stealth-based sequences. Interestingly, the Ohlen-helmed game’s lore was also explored in Episode 11 of Prime Video’s animated anthology series, Secret Level, which came out in December 2024.
With a 2026 release window now confirmed by Archetype Entertainment’s parent company, a formal announcement about the same could be expected in the near future from the Exodus developer as well. Given that there isn’t too long to go until the targeted window kicks off, it may be fair to assume that a few more glimpses at the space-faring game could be shown later in 2025.
Elsewhere, things haven’t been favorable at the Exodus lead’s former employer, BioWare. The EA-owned studio was revealed to have undergone restructuring as well as job cuts in January 2025, following the underwhelming sales of its big 2024 release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, at the same time, BioWare devs also assured that the release of their next Mass Effect title was still on the cards in spite of everything.
