Shogi, or Japanese chess, appears as a mini-game in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and it features several game modes. One of those modes is called “Puzzle Shogi,” and it is a great way to quickly earn the Shogi Points that are used to buy items from the Outdoor Shogi Player. Some of the Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Shogi puzzles are a bit tricky to solve, though, and this guide is here to assist players who may find themselves stuck.
Players will earn an additional 100 Shogi Points when they solve Shogi puzzles with Take Backs turned off. As such, Like a Dragon fans should make sure to select that option every time they initiate a puzzle.

Puzzle Shogi Solutions in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
Players can initiate Shogi puzzles by interacting with the Outdoor Shogi Player, an NPC that is sitting near Sakura St. in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii‘s Little Japan. For the sake of full clarity, the position of the Outdoor Shogi Player has been marked on the map that is above.
Puzzle Shogi 1 Solution
Move your Silver General (S) one space forward and don’t promote.
Puzzle Shogi 2 Solution
Grab the Knight (K) from the side of the board, and place it one space to the right of your Gold General (G).
Puzzle Shogi 3 Solution
Move your Rook (R) one space forward and promote.
Puzzle Shogi 4 Solution
Grab the Gold General (G) from the side of the board, and place it one space to the right and one space back from your Silver General (S).
Puzzle Shogi 5 Solution
Move your Promoted Rook (R*) one space forward and to the right.
Puzzle Shogi 6 Solution
Move your Pawn (P) one space forward and promote. Then grab the Gold General (G) from the side of the board and place it one space to the left of the opponent’s King.
Puzzle Shogi 7 Solution
Grab the Silver General (S) from the side of the board, and place it one space to the left of the opponent’s Silver General (S). Then move your Bishop (B) two spaces back and two spaces to the left. Promote the Bishop (B).
Puzzle Shogi 8 Solution
Grab the Gold General (G) from the side of the board, and place it one space to the left of the opponent’s Knight (K). Then grab the Silver General (S) from the side of the board, and place it one space to the left of the opponent’s Bishop (B).
Puzzle Shogi 9 Solution
Grab the Bishop (B) from the side of the board, and place it one space back from the opponent’s Silver General (S). Then grab the Gold General (G) from the side of the board, and place it one space to the left of the opponent’s King.
Puzzle Shogi 10 Solution
Move your left-most Bishop (B) two spaces forward and two spaces right, so that it is above the opponent’s King, and promote. Move the remaining Bishop (B) one space forward and one space to the left.
Puzzle Shogi Rewards in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
As players solve Shogi puzzles, they will earn a variety of rewards. The first of those rewards are the aforementioned Shogi Points, which are granted the first time a puzzle is solved and are used to purchase a Treasure Chest, CDs, and more from the Outdoor Shogi Player. Additionally, players will make progress toward completing several Challenges as they solve puzzles, and those Challenges award the points that are needed to increase Majima‘s Pirate Rank.
