Once you gain access to this area, you’ll have your pick between three types of challenges: Quick Clash, Madlantis Mania, and the Tournament of Captains, each offering different combat variations.

Adding naval combat into Like a Dragon is a bold move that pays off incredibly well.
In Quick Clash, your battles stay true to their namesake, as each rank challenge consists of two rounds each time, keeping the fights brief and consistent. This is the best mode for rounding out your entire crew as you can put some of your greener members to the test and earn valuable experience so they can level up and become stronger.
What Are Quick Clash Battles?
Once you’ve defeated The Ancient Blood introductory boss battle, you’ll unlock full access to the Pirates’ Coliseum, including the Quick Clash battles. These Quick Clash challenges feature a series of ship battles where you can test your mettle against increasingly difficult opponents.
Quick Clash battles only have one cannon/naval phase and one boarding phase, keeping all the fights in this mode to a fairly standard length.
Each battle will always feature two rounds, no matter the Rank.
There are five separate ranks of difficulty for Quick Clash battles – from one to five stars. You’ll face the following number of battles for each Rank:
- Rank One: Two battles
- Rank Two: Three battles
- Rank Three: Three battles
- Rank Four: Five battles
- Rank Five: Three battles
For each rank you want to challenge, you must have a pirate rank equal to that and have access to the Tournament of Captains equivalent to the rank below the one you want to challenge.
So, if you want to unlock Quick Clash rank five battles, you must be a rank five pirate (Legend of the Sea) and have unlocked the rank four Tournament of Captains battle
How To Prepare For Quick Clash
For your equipment, you should purchase at least one cannon upgrade on your port or starboard sides to make the opening phases faster.
It’s recommended to upgrade your ship’s durability and boarding squad size to make each phase of the battle slightly easier.
Machine guns are also huge tone-setters, as you’ll do a lot of damage with these weapons when you’re in front of and behind enemy ships.
While port and starboard upgrades are impactful, they’re slightly more situational in the earlier battles as there’s only one time to employ each, rather than the two instances for machine guns.
However, cannons are more important in battles starting at rank three, as the ships gain more HP and become more difficult to defeat with machine guns alone.
How To Set Up Your Quick Clash Crew
These fights are a great way to level up your crew members and ascend the pirate ranks as you make a name for yourself on the seas.
While you don’t need a fully leveled-up crew to begin these fights, it’s wise to spend a chunk of money upgrading your performance and equipment early to get started.
For these battles, we used the following squad compositions:
Cannon Squad |
|
---|---|
First Mate |
|
Starboard Cannons |
|
Machine Guns |
|
Port Cannons |
|
Boarding Squads |
|
---|---|
Squad One |
|
Squad Two |
|
Feel free to change your compositions based on how many members you have recruited and who is leveled up.
It’s most important to have a leveled-up crew to face rank two and beyond battles, so spend some time farming the earlier battles to increase your levels if needed.
How To Win Quick Clash Battles
For the cannon battles, focus all your attention on the boss ship from the opening and prepare to counter its movement with your strong side cannon, depending on whether you invested more in the Port or Starboard option.
If you fall below 50 percent health and are in a tight spot, take a moment to use your speed boost to get out of striking distance while using the repair function. It’s more important to survive than put yourself at risk.
Stay behind the boss ship to continue hitting it with machine gun damage while your cannons reload.
You don’t need to destroy the lower-tier ships to get an S-rank.
You can focus on the boss ship and begin the deck round when its HP hits zero.
For the deck battles, target the higher-ranked opponents first to prevent them from filling their Voltage Gauge and using their skills to strengthen their crew or attack you.
Sea Dog Style is preferred as you have more skills that can hit several opponents and end the battle quickly.
Once you get the crew down to one or two opponents, you can switch to Mad Dog Style if you’re low on HP and need to avoid strong foes, otherwise stick with Sea Dog until the end.
Be sure to remember to use your Support Skills by pressing up on the d-pad, as these can end battles much quicker and prevent you from being knocked out if you’re low on HP.
