The God of War series is turning 20 on March 22, marking the release of the first game back in 2005. Since it’s one of Sony‘s most important IPs, many are expecting the studio to mark the anniversary in one way or another, with the more optimistic fans hoping for a new game reveal.
Now, we might have a better idea of how the celebrations will go down. Reliable industry insider Jeff Grubb is suggesting that a remaster of the first God of War game will be announced during the anniversary, introducing the series’ origins to a new audience.
God Of War Remaster To Be Announced In March
Jeff Grubb suggests that the announcement will be made close to the series’ anniversary
Posting on BlueSky, Grubb says that previous rumours “jumped the gun a little bit”, and suggests that the remaster will be announced “closer to this”, referring to the 20th anniversary.
Rumours of God of War being remastered spread last October, with a source claiming that multiple older titles were getting re-released. Then, it was reported earlier this month that the next God of War game will see a “young Kratos” go back to Greece, prompting speculation that we’re getting a remaster, remake, or prequel. If these are all in relation to the same project, then it seems that something is happening with the first game.
Whatever the case, we don’t have too much longer to wait now. The anniversary is exactly a month away, so we’ll have to wait and see what Sony is cooking up behind the scenes, if anything.
