Deliverance 2’s Pebbles is the Undersung Hero

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has proven itself to be one of the strongest releases of the year, so far. Of course, it’s early in 2025, but Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has kicked things off with a powerful start. Developer Warhorse Studios has taken its first entry in the franchise and refined and improved it to impressive levels, making this sequel a wonderful medieval adventure.

A player’s choices truly matter in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Actions can have serious consequences, and one choice players have to make regarding their chosen horse can actually be far more important than one might think at first. Players have begun to notice that Pebbles, the game’s starter horse, has a secret perk. When arriving at Trosky Castle, players are given a choice between Pebbles and Herring, and sticking with the former offers some significant benefits down the road.

Sticking With Pebbles in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Proves Patience Pays Off

Pebbles’ Perk Gives the Horse a Major Upgrade

  • After riding Pebbles for over 35km, the perk “Good Old Pebbles” greatly boosts the horse’s stats.

When first given the choice between Pebbles and Herring, the latter seems like the most obvious option. Herring pretty much has better stats across the board, but when players manage to get the “Good Old Pebbles” perk, the starter horse becomes an incredibly powerful steed worth sticking with. Horse choices in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are an important decision, but Pebbles’ special perk offers a solid pay-off that makes this particular horse far more useful than it first appears.

How Pebbles’ Stats Change With the “Good Old Pebbles” Perk

  • Stamina: changes from 127 to 210
  • Carrying Capacity: changes from 138 to 293
  • Speed: changes from 32 to 43
  • Courage: stays the same at 12
  • Value: gets bumped from 100 to 4,140

Apart from Courage, the rest of the stats changes under the “Good Old Pebbles” perk are huge. Riding Pebbles for more than 35km turns the horse into a powerful companion, and it makes staying loyal to her a wise decision for a lot of players. Of course, other horses in the game have their own unique benefits, but Pebbles is a great example of how Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 makes every decision important. Also, from a role-playing perspective, the discovery of this perk can be really rewarding for players who want to approach the role of Henry as a fiercely loyal person. Staying true to Pebbles ultimately pays off in the end.

Herring also has a similar perk called “Red Herring” that players can get after 50km on the horse. However, the stat changes are not as significant as Pebbles’ boosts. Only Herring’s Speed and Stamina are slightly better, with the rest of the stats being the same as Pebbles or lower.
